So driving up h3 I hear a clunk. Wideband reads 7.2. Boost wouldnt go positive. Rattling in vicinity of turbo. I stop at the tunnel turn around and pop hood. Up pipe and turbo hot side are glowing red! Ideas? This is initial post as I sit waiting for a tow

That's exactly what I am thinking. I am going to take the turbo out and look.

clogged cat? turbo dying would mean griding noises or just no turbo noise as it tends to seize in place. or oil all over the damn creation.

Ouch. You did gut that cat before you put it in last week, didn't you?

The "clunk" sounds ominously like cat guts in the turbo.

Ouch #1. Crack. Ouch #2. Massive shaft play.

Cat is all good. No pieces missing and no clogs. EGT sensor isn't broken or anything.

Turbo **** the bed.

Al though the cat "is ok" I am going to replace it. I assume its clogged and I am just not seeing it with untrained cat clogged eye. SO that is going to get replaced. Something had to of caused the play and caused things to glow red hot. the WG crack i have heard of plenty of vf39 still fine with them.

The VF39 crack usually goes from the WG to the turbine wheel, mine has been that way ever since I got it, but that one looks pertty bad.

if you put in a vf39 i'm gonna slap the crap out of you. have shaggy order an UP or find a good used one and look for a 16g-xt. if you gotta buy one new then do it. no point in going half *** if your turbo **** the bed, you'll never have a better excuse to get an upgrade. go down to servco and get a quote for a new stock turbo and show that to the wife. tell her "for the same amount (or probably less) you can just order a better one." if you just put in a vf39 and ever say you're not happy, want more power, or it craps out on you too.....i'm gonna say i told you so with my rubbah slippah. now run forest, run.

My problem is a tune. Wouldn't I need a retune for a 16g-xt? If not then yeah but if so I can't afford so might as well get this vf39 with 26k for $475.

You can email Clark Turner (on nabisco look him up) for $150 he will email you a tune based on your mods ( any mods ) and fully support it with as many datalogs as you want to send him. You need a laptop and a tactrix cable.

Or risk the wrath of JUSTIN!

Don't get a 20g. You will be all smiles until your motor explodes.

Horrible timing to. I have an AP and paid my $100 to get my open source PDX sent in AP format. I can ask if they can tweak for the 16g-xt with charging more. I used to know of a 16gxt on island but I think that person must of exploded because I can't get ahold of.
