Possible Uppipe leak
If the uppipe is leaking, will the symtom definitely be a loud obnoxious noise?
Mine is making no noise, but suddenly my 'uppipe' CEL is triggered, and I'm starting to smell some pretty nasty exhaust. I'm almost certain that the smell is coming from my car and not other traffic. It seems as if it is most noticeable when I'm in 5th gear and I lightly accelerate in order to maintain current speed(like when going up the hills on H2). The EGT's will get to about 1450 deg.

What's the "uppipe" CEL? The P0546 low-egt temperature? If so that's usually from high-readins, low-temperature in the uppipe - that's normal when removing the catalytic "furnace" that the factory put in there for us...
I had my uppipe in the car for MONTHS and thousands of miles before receiving my first P0546. A little delving into the archives and that's not abnormal - especially since the ambient temperature is getting cooler and I was doing a bit of highway cruising (versus really getting the boost going)...
I think an uppipe leak you can't hear wouldn't be big enough to be very detrimental to performance...
IMHO of course.

At the cruise, Ed hooked up his reader to my underdash pinouts and just told me that the CEL was due to lack of cats. I should have asked himi specifics.
Ed, if you read this, could you rehash what it was you told me prior to the cruise? I was just relieved that the CEL wasn't bad. Also, could you explain again why the resistor mod might not work?
Thanks,
Pat

My p0546 was caused by "lack of cats" and my resistor got rid of it. Cheapest fix I've been able to find. I think I still have 2-3 resistors (2.2kohm) left somewhere too.

I got the first one that ED made on my car. The first time that we set it, it worked for 3 days then cel came back. We set it again on sunday and it hasnt come back yet so all I need is a couple of more days to see if its a sure fix. I'll post again if I dont get the damn light again.

Is that the P0420 cat inefficiency cel you're talking about Ralph? That would be the o2 simulator voltage pass filter...
This is a cheapo 2.2k ohm resistor mod for the egt plug in the uppipe to combat the not-so-dreaded p0546 CEL.
Too many CEL's, not enough fixes.

I got ripped off! I had to buy like 4 for $1.50 or something.
Pat, if I can find the pack one is yours. I'll even "install" it (you'll laugh).
