FTP and hosting site

I've got a crap load of files on my computer that I would like to share with you all, but I need to set up an FTP. I have no experience with hosting my own FTP server, so maybe if you could help me out with info?

Problems I forsee:
1. I am on Cable Modem without a static IP. I never reboot my modem, so I should stay on one IP unless the modem gets turned off, Right?

2. I have a router so both my wife and I can use the internet. However, I'm pretty sure the NAT firewall is going to cause hell. How do I open a port for FTP?

On another note, I opened up my Roadrunner Website. I'm pretty much using it to host signatures and image files for myself. If you need a place to host a signature file for other forums, just let me know and I'll host your pic.

See you on Sunday.

Your IP address can change at any time by Oceanic's whim and/or when the your DCHP lease expires.

You'll have to monitor that on a pretty regular basis so that DNS records are updated properly with dyndns (dynamic dns) etc...

Open port 21 for FTP in your router.

Or of course, you can DMZ all your router ports. I do that once in a while when I'm lazy.
