Ricers. That is all.
I for one think the WRX has a more aggressive look. That front bumper is sexy. I don't know why the sti doesn't have it. In terms of performance, debadge the car and you can't tell the difference. Top mount / turbo / injectors / fuel pump upgrade and you're faster than an sti... so why pay the extra MSRP anyway? Upgrade the drivetrain and it'll handle better than an sti. That's my opinion.
Even with all the additional benefits of an STi, I would not trade my WRX for one straight up. Modding is a process, enjoy it. Choose a goal for your car and work towards that. After 2008, the WRX and STi differences were very minimal aside from the transmission. The main differences were things you would change anyway in the course of mods (suspension, bolt-ons, etc) so it is really a moot point.
Now, I will say I have been at it for 9 years.. so I do have a slightly different perspective. It takes time to decide what you want out of your vehicle, and over time those objectives change. Either way, the WRX is a fine base vehicle to begin with.
Tell your wife that no matter what car you have you will still be spending money on mods. Might as well start off with a cheaper car right? Can always suggest to her that if you were not modding the car you could take up other hobbies? Like base jumping, shark wrestling, high stakes gambling, taxidermy, or tanning!

Sounds unanimous. I agreed with a lot of the points made for the WRX but it's kinda disappointing not to hear any STi owners come out and defend there choice. I think I will wait on doing power mods for now because a) the car is only 5 months old and b) heck, keep modding my car now and when the next gen comes out pick that STi up and have the best of both worlds.

I have a impreza that will never be an STi and it doesn't bother me at all, but it has a full EJ257 & 6MT swap with a new built motor with a FP green that will soon be tuned on E85.
The main thing is that you are happy with the car and it is capable of holding up to what ever mods you add to it. I had a wrx a couple years ago that 3rd gear couldn't handle the mods added, ended up swapping in a 6mt and then it was solid. Another thing to think about if you have to go that route is; how much will you lose on the car to stop now and sell it, and how much will it cost to upgrade later if you have to make it handle the mods you want to add to it.

I had an 08 WRX and I had a blouch dom 3xtr and the whole lot. I got to a point and questioned myself, why wasn't I doing this to an STi or EvoX. I could afford it, but it boiled down to that I was happy with my WRX and granted I contemplated doing an STi swap numerous times I just kept telling myself you might as well get an STi at that point. Really it depends on what you want to do with your car. I used to be in love with the wide body styling of the 11+ WRX/STis and I come to realize my narrow bodied 08 was doing just fine for me. I guess the question I have for you is do you want to part out your car and start over with an STi?
Side note I got off kind of easy my car got wrecked last month by my friend which sucks to see the work I put into it get obliterated (it had less than 30k miles), but on the flip side of the coin I got a fat check for my car and am going to be getting myself an ISF in the next couple of weeks. Kind of worked out considering I was looking around at other cars, (of course I didn't want my car crashed though).

I'm not going to lie, I have a car buying problem. In the past 9 years, I've owned 7 cars. I enjoy automobiles and what each one and there particular traits have to offer. But there is something about my WRX that makes me wanna drive every chance I get, whether it be down the road for groceries or what have you. I think I'll hold on to this one for a long time. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I still have the problem but unfortunately it may have evolved for the worst resulting in owning multiple cars at the same time.

To answer your question, my OP kind of got lost in translation. I was not trying to imply that I would get rid of my car, I was more looking for opinions on whether or not having a glorified WRX would be looked at as a wannabe STi or even be able to command the same level of respect. I didn't find the need to redirect the thread because for the most part my question was still being answered.

Oh I see, yeah honestly you can't worry about what others think, everyone is going to think differently no matter what you do. It seems like your WRX is getting the job done for you. I had plans on keeping my WRX in my garage for a loooongg time but as you can see that didn't really happen. I will say 7 cars in 9 years is pretty impressive, but hey theres nothing wrong with settling with what you got now!
