there are many uses for dual monitor such as web page editing etc etc. through nvidia's nview you can throw programs to another monitor then use your first monitor to do other work and such. its very hard to explain though. some things i've done before with it is going to www.i-club.com/forums...maximize the forums page on my main, and then say if i decide to look at the hawaii i-club subforum, i hold CTRL and click and it'll send another IE window fully maximized to the second monitor so i can actually surf Vendor's Forsale and Hawaii I-Club just by turning my head a little.

I don't need all the duel processor/monitor extra crap. I'll I do is play some games now and then, get on i-club and finish up work I didn't do at work.

Plus I get all the software, warranty, support and peace of mind that comes with getting a "known" put together comptuer.

Whatever floats your boat man. But imo, spending 2.2k on a computer with a 2.4GHZ P4 long pipeline isn't worth it. If its just for work and Just trying to help a fellow i-clubber out on what to look for. I haven't been building computers for years for nothing. Dell's are not bad systems considering their main line and for a catalog/web based computer company they're not too bad in lemons. When I was working at Pearl, out of the 2000 they ordered, 18 were DOA. Alot of them broke after a few months.

Support: Depends which tier you get.
Warranty: Getting parts then putting it together have a better warranty than what Dell provides. HDD, Processors and etc have 3 year warranty if you buy them as parts. Does Dell give a 3 year warranty?

This is the page you have to read...I too have bought many items from Dell, all peripherials but I still have negative stances towards their support.

Not to nudge Mitch but where was you when I was working at Pearl Harbor as a network tech?
The Dells they switched over were going crazy and it took 2 weeks to actually get it repaired underwarranty.

I still say put your own computer together. You can't really do anything wrong while installing, you get to know your computer alot better which in turn beats any computer technical support person.

And Dell taxes.

I got everything + next day air shipping for $1,987 not $2,200 and Dell didn't tax me.

Thanks for all the help.

Dual Monitor Rocks! At work and at home I am running dual monitors. Just like BoOm, I do the same thing, look at vendor pages on one, while reading on another or just compare 2 vendors, the possiblities are endless. Watch DVD on one screen and work on graphics on the primary.

BoOm, have you had any problems with Nview? I used it and it would just flake out on me, so I just ran out and bought a 2nd video card. Both are Nvidia cards, so I could possibly run 4 monitors.

BoOm,

Were you really born in 1984? If so, damn your a smart kid. I could barely surf **** correctly on the internet. I don't even know how to erase all the evidence from my computer after a late night surfing. Farrington H.S. sucks, I never touched a computer once when I was there. I need to go back to school. =(

Initially it was difficult to get it running because it needed to be tweaked out but after tweaking it was flawless. its pretty nice to chat on aim while playing wc3 from one single computer.

lol. yeah i was born in the 80's

i actually caught on the wave of the internet bubble during 98 when i was 14 and started building computers for some local businesses. It swelled all the way until 2001 then died down alot. But most of the computer stuff I learned, I learned it myself. Sometimes it wasn't fun because that field of work is stressing. I wasn't really a smart kid in school though but I was lucky to go to St Louis. Fixed alot of computers there, did some networking then won the 2001 Computer Building Championship at the Hawaii Computer Expo in 2001. I still build some computers here and there for people and some companies but then they come in huge spurts. Well thats my bio

FARRINGTON? I worked there as an Asst. Ttechnology Coordinator fixing and installing PC's and managing the network there for a couple years. I think from 97-99 or so.

But wait, how did you go to Farrington and still be alive? If you have been to farrington, you would know what I'm talking about... Even as a teacher, I was called out to fight.

Well, I pissed at the back of the Autoshop building all the time; didn't want to use the restroom b/c it was swarmed with pocket pirates that will take your last penny. Had a friend that was about 5' and about 100lbs that went in the restroom with a brand new hat, jacket, pack of cigs., and a handfull of change. He exited with the biggest sad face without his hat, jacket, cigs., and change. I don't know how the guy did it, but the guy that jacked him was at least 250lbs and and was able to squeeze into the jacket. The guy looked stupid, but I had to resist being heroic. The rest of my little friends were terrified and left the area and wouldn't have backed me up anyways.
I was never really picked on, I kept to myself and tried to keep a low profile. Was almost kicked out of school because of fighting too much, but my counselor was super cool. He understood that you had to stand up for yourself or you would be known as a pushover and be picked on all the time. Besides beating the crap out of the other guy who was hated by the staff, my counselor praised the action and fought for me. I was still able graduate thanks to him. I must take him out for a drink one day.
