which rs should i get?
in 2 months i will have enough to put a good down payment on a car, i have come to realize i cant afford a wrx but i am a fan of subaru awd, so what year rs should i look for, i want one that has good aftermarket support and that can beat a F'ING civic si, i hate civics and probes and sunfires i want a car that i can get at least 225 whp for not too much, i have been reading up on the turbo kits but it is getting too confusing, like if i wanted to go over 200 hp i would have to get head work done? if i was to get a rs what steps would i have to take to get the hp i want, and would the stock tranny be able to take it?

well what do you consider 'not much money'
i mena you can get a like 99 rs for probably 12K if even that much
so for 6 or 7 grand you could be hitting that
you could wait till templar is done w/ his s/c and for 3k you can be pushing that at the crank, stage 2 or 3 should hit that at the wheels... dont' know how much he's expecting for that
but 7grand is about what you'll have to spend (based on other's experience, not my own my car is pushing abotu 150 at the crank)
that still puts you at less than a wrx,

Well, lets put it this way. The 2.5RS EJ25 phase II motor is the fastest 4cylinder from 0-60ft if that is any consolation? But it is a really punchy motor.

The EJ25 had two versions. One was a DOHC design that was called the Phase I motor. The current EJ25 that is in every Subaru with a 2.5 is a SOHC design called the Phase II motor. If you get an RS from MY99-present. It will have the phase II motor in it. The phase II motor was designed to have good low end and mid range torque and hp. It is quite repsonsive.
Both engines had 165hp with 166lbs-ft of torque.

Well, check with skywalker, he has a 99RS with a Ludespeed turbo kit in it. His engine internals are completely stock. He puts out about 245whp at 12psi, I cannot remember. And there are no problems with the car. He does use this car as a daily driver. The heads flow fine. You can upgrade them for even more flow but it all depends on you application. You could buy an older chassis and do an EJ20 swap like I did. I love it and am putting down around 210whp.
Here is the link to skywalker's dyno chart:

Well he is putting 12psi with stock internals. And it runs really strong. I have sat in his car before and it is a beast.
