4EAT to 5MT?
I think you should leave your 12 second 4EAT alone. If you wanna play with 5 speed go buy a beater car and play with that. IMO you will be opening a can of worms that you will regret...unless you have cash to burn...and a back-up vehicle for daily use while your WRX is being worked on/repaired. If you do decide to do the swap, for heaven's sake, don't put in the 5MT!
I'm with Dan, I think you would be better off buying an STi. Just strip your car, and the money from the car sale + the money for a 6 speed swap would put you almost at the cost of an STi. Put all your old stuff on the STi and proceed to break some records.

Jon, since I probably won't sell my car, I'm looking for a tranny upgrade too. Have a guy prospecting trannys in Japan this weekend. Let me know what you're interested in. I personally am looking for a Version VI STI 5 speed (W/ cryogenically treated gears). This comes w/ the 4.444 ring and pinion as well as the front and center LSD's. This will make up for the torque us 2.0 guys lack in comparison to the 2.5 STI's. If you want to pick up my 5 speed after my swap, you certainly are welcome to. Just let me know. Call me if you're serious. You got my #. By the way, a 6sp will slow your 1/4 times because of the additional shifting.
Chibby, give me a call let me know when I can pick up the wheels. 230-1138
