4EAT to 5MT or 6MT
I have an 02 4EAT WRX and am very seriously considering converting my car to either a 5MT or 6MT
What I need to know is
1. What parts I will need to convert my car (recommendations on either USDM/JDM 5MT or 6MT would be appreciated)
2. Approximate cost
3. Where can I get the parts from?
4. Approximately how long will this take
5. How much down time can I expect.
I've helped my brother do a auto to manual conversion on a 240 and it didn't take long at all...

I'd do a 6 Speed for sure...for daaaaaaamn sure! Unless it costs like $5K more than a 5 Speed!
Either way, you should upgrade the internals etc. before you throw it in since it's a pain in the booty to change later.

hmm, the 6 spd would require more work done... (axles and what not..) the 5 spd is good, but do you think that with all your mad power it'll break? if so, do the 6spd.

6spd will actually be easier since the driveshaft is the same as on the 4EAT. Another vote for the 6spd. You will need the diffs, pedal set, tranny, clutch, clutch cable, shift linkage, shifter, some other stuff too. Expect to pay around $5000 for the swap.

yea .. i'd say with the money that' needs to go into a 6 spd .. (which is what i would do rather than a 5 spd .. cause i've seen so many blown gears on the 5 spd .. just dont get it )unless you have a like gt-rs turbo or something that will require a tranny to be able to take the punishment, the 6 spd tranny will be a waste of money. I guess it really depends on what your gonna do with the car. buh over all , trading your car in and using the money for the tranny as down payments will get you ahead of the game on a 05 sti which is kick ***. that's what i would do.

Thanks for your input guys... I think I might have found an alternative to this that might be cheaper on me
