i say..... go for what you feel and how you honestly feel... lesson learned...i used to listen to other people's opinions on anything and found out it screws me up more to the max!!! (not talking about just cars in general but for anything and everything)... but don't get me wrong... it is good to get a little input here and there....but then again...remember... your own self is your own rival... it'll be your car.. not theirs.. test drive both..then make the decision i guess... but then again, it is really up to you... =)
just sat in a non-turbo ms3 2009. Idk if leather is standard, but the interior is cherry. I'd say a little better than the wrx. Overall it was a decent ride, responsive and pretty nimble. The trunk of ms3 hatch was slightly shorter in width because I couldn't fit my bodyboard (which goes perfect in my wrx) but probably longer in length. I'm not sure if the rubber mats for cargo and foots was standard but they seemed like it, so cheaper that way then having to order two seperate mats for the wrx.
I would say the ms3 hatch is great if you're looking to carry things (fit 4 of us just fine) and it's ok on gas mileage. For my 09 WRX i just broke 1500 miles and driving from Chinatown to Wahiawa and back I hit 26.7 mpg which included the morning's regular bumper to bumper traffic to UH. That was driving like a granny and shifting before 3k. Anyways I might try some red line pulls later tonight so definitely looking forward to that. The MS3 seemed to have enough power for the average person and I'm sure the turbo would be on par if not faster than the WRX (less powertrain loss).

With conservative driving on the Mazda 3 2.3L I get slightly worse mileage than my 3.5L chipped v6. This isn't an engine problem, more of a difference between a 7speed that does 70mph at 1700rpm and the Mazda 3.
Parts wise, you're going to find much more aftermarket parts with the WRX.
Interior is alright, but you're going to have a hard time reading the cluster. Speedo numbers are too bunched up. The seats are VERY good though. Much better than the WRX.
Steering is actually quite impressive and wheel is stiff but exhibits heavy torque steer if you're hitting a corner quick.
Transmission is among one of the worst I've ever driven but I personally do have higher standards. WRX/7GTRONIC/6spd GETRAG as past cars. At lower gears, shifting exhibits too much jerking.
The engine has quite a bit of pull at low rpm's. For some people it is a nice thing.
Early grats on your new car, whichever you choose.

SUBARU FTW? I honestly havent driven many cars in my time of driving but I have to say Subaru will be my car choice for safety. buuuuut since i did learn from driving my first subaru ever not to judge a car before you drive it....
Take your time to decide on which you prefer, you wouldnt want to rush anything and feel like you made a mistake. (i made the mistake of buying automatic)
