2008 WRX gets pwned by 2007 Mazdaspeed 3

This is pretty embarrassing.

When I bought my bug-eye in 2001 I never imagined the WRX would fall so low - this car has gotten progressively worse every year and now it's getting pwned by Mazda. What's next? A Scion?

Same thing happened last year. No suprises there. Hell, last year the WRX was placed behind the Sentra SE-R Spec V.

I could care less. My car does what it's supposed to do. That's all that matters.

last year I think a big part of the comparison was the interior and thats partly why the Mazda won, but do you really buy a car for its interior? I don't.

oh yeah, and they compared the Mazda and the WRX TR, no wonder they didn't like the interior

Well this year they compared an 08 Subaru against an 07 Mazda and still lost. If you read the article, they lost on performance, not interior.

The WRX has gotten too soft since it's original iteration.

I was talking about last MY's comparison, I haven't read the new article. From an i-clubbers review the new WRX wasn't very good. Makes me wonder if they are going to hinder the performance of the STi or keep it the same hoping potential WRX buyers will buy the STi instead.

The new tuning is an amazing and surprising feature of the 08 though, torque comes ALOT sooner.... its going to be a beast with some bolt ons and a tune... the car just needs some suspension work.

I hate how they compare WRX's to Mazdaspeed 3's...

That's what I was thinking... SOA is offering the WRX Sedan as a granny-mobile/tahoe locals, the WRX Hatch for budgeted Daily Driver/Enthusiasts, and HOPEFULLY a sicker STi for the baller track ***** enthusiasts.

This passed model was the most similar a wrx/sti have ever been in the history of the impreza, maybe they were out to change that again and put some distance between the WRX and STi.

My 07 WRX got the 2.5 liter engine, the STi sideskirts, the scoop-size on both is the same, the brakes are 4pot/2pot which stomp the old WRX brakes, but still not Brembos, the 6 cd changer/automatic climate control is the same, and plenty of other little things that brought the WRX and STi closer than ever. SOA made the only difference the 6 speed/power/tires/suspension and ditched most cosmetic differences. Enthusiasts can easily make their 06-07 WRX very.. very similar to an STi in just those four areas of modding.

The WRX hasn't gotten soft..... it's gotten stronger, more torque, more power, quicker to peak on both as well. It may need some suspension work to make up for the extra inch in height, but overall this platform is nice and the best setup yet for a WRX.

If this was an STi losing to a Mazdaspeed 3 then you could say "The STi has gotten too soft since it's original iteration" however it's not. The Mazdaspeed 3 is right between the WRX and STi like it has been for the passed few years. It was made in the middle and that's where it stays/ranks... however your comparing an AWD Flat 4 Turbo Hatch to a FF Turbo... the FF will get some better cornering and not have to deal with understeer as much as the suby....

so chill, the WRX is doing great, just wait til the STi comes out

I don't find it an accurate comparison.

Mazdaspeed is Mazda's motorsport themed vehicle, similar to Nismo, TRD, etc. You take that to go up against a normal WRX? o_O

face it teh 08 wrx is ghey
They even got rid of the posi rear end. So you have to swap one more thing out.

As for the STi the 08 is nice. But I'm glad to have an 2006

hmm.. maybe i'm jumping to conclusions here, but i can see it now. WRX gets soft (literally). Sti gets all the good stuff and gets the price lifted to 35-40k from 32k. Enthusiasts get screwed.
