What's everyone's opinion on when to switch to synthetic? Some say 1k is good, others 3k, some 5-6k, and there are those that say you shouldnt change for the first year. You have some arguing that there are blow by issues and that the pistons rings won't seal well....but at the same time some cars come with synthetic from the factory. I know this is an old topic but I'm just curious about what us Hawaii folk think.
And Dave....I'm sure the flush can only be good...unless you got some guy running too much pressure!! I've heard some stories about oil and trans flushes but not I'm not sure how credible they are. As for me...it's time to change the oil...I think I'll use dino at ~1k and 2k, and I'll switch to synthetic at 3k after that. Probably Mobil1 but not written in stone yet....I used Syntec for a long time...

Mobil1 is recommended for use by the manufacturer in......
1) Vettes
2) 911s
3) EVO's <----it's on the oil cap
4) many other Bad A$$ cars.
That it's good enough for my STi.
I''ve used Mobil1 in all the cars I've onwed and have never had one problem.........EVAR.

... on the topic of when to switch to synthetic, ..... IF you're motor is completely broken-in at your first oil change, then I'd say things would be okay. BUT if the rings aren't totally seated/sealed properly, switching to synthetic would be a bad idea for some of the reasons mentioned earlier.
Personally, I would never switch to synthetic until after about 3k or so, .... but what do I know.

When Steven and I changed to synthetic, we took 9 quarts of Mobil 1 synth and drained the old dino oil, poured 4 quarts of synth, ran the car idle for a bit, then drained it out. Then pour in the right amount of synth. Ran like a charm after.
Many places can do a system flush for your oil change with the tubes and pumping machines but it does make your car look like its tube fed.
