1st Oil Change Questions...

Ok, so its time. Going with Mobil Synthetic 5w-30. Question is I am thinking of going to Midas and getting the flush treatment. I had this done back when I first got my Camaro broken in and I watched the dealer change the oil first by the usual draining and we ran it through a strainer, then you would usually pour the new oil in, but he did a flush (not sure the tech term) and ran a hose to the dipstick hole and just flushed with oil. We got a ton more metal out that way. So in closing, I am thinking of doing that and just curious what everyones opinion is? Waste of money? Waste of time?

Thanks.

Would you trust Midas on your car?

When Steven and I changed to synthetic, we took 9 quarts of Mobil 1 synth and drained the old dino oil, poured 4 quarts of synth, ran the car idle for a bit, then drained it out. Then pour in the right amount of synth. Ran like a charm after.

Many places can do a system flush for your oil change with the tubes and pumping machines but it does make your car look like its tube fed.

That's a good idea but I would use new clean "dino" oil as the flush. Then put Synth in. It would save a little $$. The bad thing is you need to get 2 Fiters. But it should be way cheaper than having anyone do it for you.

I think you guys might be goint a LITTLE overboard - but hey I don't have an STi so I'm not sure what lengths I would go to keep it "cherry". :D

Shoot, I've only washed my car once since I've had it.....

Because you're too busy driving it! Just the way it should be. My anal nature used to keep from enjoying things. I'd want to "preserve them". It was a sickness. I'm better now. I enjoy things (while still trying not to beat the **** out of them) - it's hard though. ;)

You know what they say about genius being on the verge of lunacy? :p

the whole flush thing seems a bit much to me too, but it sure couldn't hurt.
I probably wouldn't do it b/c I'm too lazy, but if I did, I'd use the dino oil for the flush like Dan said.

Oh well, to each his/her own I guess. Atleast others will run Mobil 5-30 so thats good to know. I guess if you had seen what I had with my Camaro and seen that even after the drain there was still enough crud in the oil during the flush you might do it as well... I guess when the flush is like $60 I sorta think, why not?! I mean it couldnt hurt, might be beneficial and atleast gives me peace of mind.

Why wouldnt I trust Midas to change oil? I mean Im sitting there the whole time and its oil, its not rocket science... I wouldnt let them touch anything else, but Im sure they cant hurt a car changing the oil. Just my opinion...

If Im missing something please enlighten me...

It will not hurt anything, that's for sure. But it's hard to compare a big V8 (it was a V8 right?) to a boxter 4. The V8 is 2x as big and has 4x the moving parts as a flat 4. Do the flush and take some pictures of the oil!!!

Is your site up yet?

True, makes sense. Oh well, peace of mind is worth it. Im sure its a waste, but it wont be the first time or the last...
