oil change questions

buying a new wrx or sti, what is the proper time and oil to use. i read that narutal oil should be used then synthetic. whats the right way to do this for both cars?

Just follow what is in the car's manual. FWIW I run Mobile 1 syn in my STi.

I thought the STi came with mobil 1 5w30 from the factory? I know the Evo and many other sports type cars do.

not sure what they put in it from the factory - prolly organic.

run their oil until break-in. don't put synthetic in until after break-in...it's better for the engine to break in on the organic stuff they probably use.

so dont change the oil till after break in? should that be 1000 miles or 3000?

you can wait till the 3500 sheduled change.

then swap in your brand of choice.

sweet thanks man. what kind of driving do you recommend for a breaking the car in. baby it? vary? hard? what worked well for you guys?

Don't go over 4k very often but every once in awhile run it up to redline but don't stay there. Just don't push the car very hard. It is really hard to resist the temptation but you just have to.
