Sheesh...conventional oil is so cheap that I would take the extra step and do a oil change at 1,000 just to be on the safe side then do one at 3,000 to get back on schedule.

Uh, changing the oil should not damage your engine, supposedly as long as you don't change it to synthetic yet...

+1 to cannibal

stick with dyno(regular) oil till 10k.

do the first oil at 1k, then at 3k, then 3k after that.

when you change to synthetic you can do at every 5k. unless you drive pretty hard. then do at every 3k.

I would follow subaru's first oil change interval at 3000, that way more wear-in metals can break it in fast/thorough.

more oil change does not have negative affect on the engine. just because you change it later doesn't mean it's going to mbreak in faster

I just changed mine at 1011 miles with dino juice. I have a dealer coupon for the 3000 mile oil change, so I might take it there for that to save some money on the oil and filter. That'll be dino juice. I'll change it myself at 5000 with dino juice. I have the dealer coupon for the 7500 miles service, so that'll be dino juice. At 10k miles, I'll switch it over to synthetic (Redline, Royal Purple, or Amsoil 10W-30) and change it every 5000 miles from there.

Talking

its not bad at all to change to synthetic oils after the first 1000 mile break in, the stigma has been 10,000 , but todays better built engines and seals dont require 10k of dino oil to seat properly.
i dunno, i changed mine at 1200 to mobile 1 5-30 anad its running Perfectly. I heard this from a oil expert and well as my own research into subaru engines.
just putting it out there.....
