Forester and Headgasket problems.

I posted this on another board, but want to get all the information I can get. I been doing some searches and it seems the Forester's engine has problems. Piston slap, head gaskets, and such. Has everyone experienced the same problems?
I want to purchase a Forester brand new, but I do not want these problems.

I have a problem with my head gasket now. I have had this problem for about 40k miles now and it's pretty bad. It started really small and now I have to fill the coolant every few days. Never had a problem with piston slap. I have a 99'. I think that is the first year they had the SOHC 2.5L. Before they had the DOHC 2.5L. I haven't really heard anyone complain about this from 2001 on, but that could be because maybe there isn't enough miles on them. Mine started leaking at about 90k miles. In spite of this problem, I still love this car. It's pretty peppy and i've took it on fire trails, muddy to icy without getting stuck yet. The good thing about it is that I will have to get the heads machined before I put the new gaskets on, so this could help in the engines logevity.

just like the price of the car you can bargain for a lower price on the extend-o warranty. it's like health/life insurance you buy it and hope you don't use it. but if you need it you will be happy you got it. i want the auto industry to make a proffit. as long as it is within reason. if you are worried about brake downs the extend-o-warenty can give you piece of mind.
