I own a 2001 2.5 rs and my scooby started to throw CEL's lately, it blinks for 20 seconds usually when i start the car and when the engine isn't warmed up other than that it stays on at all times.

When i got the codes checked it said that i had 1.) high rpm at idle 2.)Misfire in cylinder one 3.) Misfire in cylinder two

I changed all spark plugs thinking the misfiring would be due to bad plugs thus causing the higs rpms at idle (1000rpm)
At first the rpms did go down to 850 but after a day of driving they're back to 1000 and so is the CEL, but it's not blinknig anymore, at least for now anyways.

All i have is a cold air intake
Any ideas of what could be wrong and how to fix it?

i don't have a warranty on the car and i don't want pay an arm and a leg at the dealership to fix this if i can.

 

Most idle problems in MAF systems are usually due to "false air" leaks in the intake piping ........between the sensor and Throttle body. Also a vaccum leak alone can cause your problems. How long have you had that Intake installed? Are you sure there are no leaks in the unit?

PS once you have these items verified working properly, then there are further things to check but start here.

 

i have 26,000 miles on it and i've had the intake for about a year now.
i bought the car used and the dealer i got the car from gave me a one year warranty on it which by now has expired.
i'll check out the intake for any leaks.

by wires you mean spark plug wires correct?
