Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

97 2.2L Impreza Electrical Problem

Hello,

I am trying to diagnose a very strange electrical problem in my sister's 1997 Impreza with the 2.2L engine and auto transmission, power locks and windows, and I was hoping I could find some pointers here.

Basically what happens is that when the car is off, it will randomly start flashing it's lights and locking/unlocking it's doors. Recently it has started doing this while it is running on the road as well (twice so far), so it's definately time to find this problem before she gets a ticket or anything.

I've already checked the charging system and it had a clean bill of health with good voltage and a new battery (always the first thing I check with strange electrical issues).

I am thinking that it might be a screwed up factory alarm or keyless entry system (and the car did not come with the FOBs when she bought), but I'm not familiar with working on Subaru's, so I figured I'd check here and see if this might be something else before I go chopping any wires.

If I've left any needed info out of the post, please let me know. As I said, I'm not very familiar with these cars being a DSM guy myself, but I have to say I'll probably pick up a Subaru after having gotten the chance to drive her car in the snow LOL.
