Sti Top Mount On A Wrx
Hey guys:
I recently purchased a sti top mount intercooler for my 02 wrx and the y-pipe comes alittle short of the turbo. i need alil more flex and that baby will slide right in.
I thought samco hoses would do the trick but when i called up vivid racing, they said that it will not. they told me that i have to use sti hoses and y-pipe.
Has anyone installed a sti top mount?
if so, how did you make it fit?

im positive... i had one with my usdm engine, and i have one on my jdm engine. i tried to make it work without the hoses, and couldnot succed. porkchop did it without them, and it did work, but it was ghetto rigged. but you will need a set of samco's to mutilate in order to do that. also make sure you bend your ac lines outta the way first.
was it ghetto rigged? it was just a extension pipe and you save your self $100+. for something you can't see, I don't see a problem.

You can extend the piping no problem and it will work fine, I would doubt it effects performance too much.
Tommy I don't think Aaron was calling the method ghetto but using your shoe lace instead of a clamp was a little welfare mod like

My STi IC rubbed my A/C line through. The drivers side inlet duct rubbed the small line through about 3" down from the 90* bend at the firewall. I had it welded, and bent it for clearence. It also contacts the large A/C line on the passengers side just below the charging valve, which I insulated with a split piece of fuel hose zip-tied to the line. Not perfect, but it works.
