Ok, so I'm almost positive it came from my car... a big cloud of oil smoke after the car sat for the night. It is blue oil smoke, and I know that's what it is because our rav4 does the same thing (known problem from poor oiling).

Is this a known problem on the WRX? I've heard of bad gaskets, and shot rings (blue smoke while driving), but never just at cold startup.. To clarify, the blue smoke only comes out for a few seconds, then the normal white condensation comes out (while you are choking on the oil stink).

My ride is all stock, and I drive like a normal middle aged man .

 

Have you done proper maintence to the PCV system?

 

That's the single thing in all the maintenance that I skipped. Would it get plugged up in <50K miles of otherwise perfect maintenance?

I tried duplicating the problem and no longer see any blue smoke. I'll try it again this week. Heck, could have been the guy parked right next to me started his at the same time that day.
