It uses the MAF for fuel and the MAP(manifold absolute pressure) sensor to reference boost pressure for controling the EBC solenoid.

dumb question. i am reading that intake + water is not a good thing. but i see people all over run crazy setups with TMICs or FMIC and their CF Hoods w/ Vents where water can enter.. how is this possible?

The water is only a problem (hydrolock) when a good volume is injested at once.For example:You install a cold air intake that places the filter too far down towars the bottom of the fender skirt.It rains heavily.You hit big puddle and suck up water.AEM has actually made a intake bypass coupling valve that can prevent this from happening.
