Knocking Problem
OK. Just about two weeks ago, I installed my Helix up pipe on my 04 WRX. And since then, every now again, not all the time, when I'm idling, I get a knocking sound. The car isn't runnign rough and is still running stronger than before the up pipe.
Has anyone else run into this and is it common? Also, is there a fix for this or something I have to deal with since taking out the factory up pipe?
Thanks
Chris

The knocking sound could be a lot of things: loose bolt at the uppipe flange, loose O2 sensor, detonation, or something that was there before and you just noticed it now.
Do you have any more details? Where is the sound coming from specifically? How loud is it compared to the other normal ticks that come from the boxer?

It's not very loud or often. I only noticed the noise on Friday and then again this morning and it's when I'm idle. It's coming from what sounds like behind the radio...where the up pipe is...So it is possible it could be the EGT sensor because i Did have that moved when I installed it. But I don't know what would cause that to move when I'm idle???

You may have the same noise at higher revs, but the engine and exhaust are louder and you may not be able to hear the sound.

I'll hve to start marking down when I hear this because I can't remember if I had the heat on or not. So that could possibly be it. Thanks for they help and if it turns into anything more, I'll be sure to post it.
Thanks

i have the same prob./.. i just put a helix up and down 2 days ago and right after the install i took the car out for a drive... when i'm costing in reverse or making a left or slight left i'm getting a kocking sound, i though i forgot to put the motor mount nut back on, but i checked and it was on there... i'm thinking the pipes might be hitting the sub frame... but not sure yet. has anyone have the kinds knocking sound with these pipe installs?
okay, i'm at work now and i think my prob is that the catted part of my helix DP is hitting on the side of the engin bay... does anyone with a helix catted DP have this problem? how did you solve it? THANX!
okay! i think i fixed the prob! (for me anyways...) it wasn't the cat part of the DP hitting the side of the engine bay... its was the lower part of the Dp hitting a crossmember... sylencce i think u can fix ur kocking prob by lossing the hanger on the DP and push it over away from the side of the crossmember as far as possible. (thats what i did and all is good as of now)
