Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

How hard is it to install a resistor on the uppipe 02?

The resistor is no problem. When you remove your old uppipe you simply disconnect the egt probe lead (the rest remains on your old uppipe), your know left w/ a harness receptacle w/ two female slots- just take the resistor and fold the ends over and stick them in the harness receptacle- like pluggin in a two prong plug into a outlet! Tape over w/ electricians tape. That's it, the ecu will know see a constant temp-telling it everything is A OK.

The uppipe itself is a little more difficult. It is a very worthwhile mod- a must do in my book for lots of reasons- lowers egts=good, lowers spool=good, no chance of the cat disentagrating into your turbo=good, 7-10hp/ft lbs torque= good.

the connector is very accessible....so even if you don't put in the resistor during the up-pipe instal....you can do it down the road if you start getting a cel

It fakes out the ECU into believing it is getting a valid signal from the EGT sensor indicating the catalytic convertor is OK.

Like big sky said, you put the 2.2k resistor across the leads, tape it up and you're set. I have a Perrin uppipe and this is exactly what I did. Never had a CEL since or any problems. The ECU actually doesn't tune any performance/safety parameters based upon readings from the uppipe's EGT sensor, so you're not affecting anythign important by doing this fix.
