custom exhaust
hi everyone here. I'm new to posting on this website. i've been reading the past threads about custom exhausts and i saw a guy used magnaflow for his axle back set up and seems quite satisfied for the small amount of money spent. i'm just curious if anyone did the same thing with a different brand muffler?? i know this will only give me sound and not much performance but i only have $200 at most to spend on my wrx now. i do have plans for mods like uppipe, turboback exhaust and boost controller in the future but now i'll settle for some nice boxer rumble for cheap. at least i can enjoy my car a little more with the nicer sound and a little added power until i save up for some serious, high quality mods right?? any opinions??

hey RS Turbo, do Jays do mandrel bending on the exhaust pipes? a local Meineke quoted me $200-$250 for a catback 3" using multiple U-bends cut and weld together to straight pipes as they dont do mandrel bending. do u think it's a good deal? i just purchased a magnaflow 2.5" that should arrive by next week. If Jays can do mandrel bending I might go there instead.

unfortunately not!!!!! my whole turbo back is not mandrel bends....I'm pretty sure that the loss is so minimal that unless you're a full race setup, you'll never see the difference...just my assumption though!!!....except if you're spending $$$ for the muffler then spending another $250 and all you're getting is a cat back...that sounds high!!! Jay did my whole turbo back for under $600...you really need to open that cat up and get a serious downpipe to increase power!!!

Hi Guys,
As far as exhaust it all depends on the Quality of pipe, Stianles(which type), and aluminized, or cheap pipe....
My neighbor is an exhaust shop and has a Mandrel bender. I have him do a cat back with 304 stianless, 3" mandrel, Mangaflow polished 3" race series, with beatiful stianless tip. Cost to me was 450$, and they spent 3 hours on this car. This is due to the more expensive welding that is required. Plus set up time on the Mandrel bender. This system also comes with a "header" flange so the exhaust can be unbolted it necessary.
The system is excellent. Sounds mean at WOT and you can speak softly while driving and still hear each other.

$450 seems a little light for a polished race series and turbo back 304....anything is possible...but it sounds like he only charged you for parts.....are you runnin a cat??? that might be the difference...a high flow cat isn't free!!!!! either way I'm sold on the fact that spending $1000+ for exhaust and then paying to get installed isn't worth it....I got plenty of ways to spend that extra $500-$800...
