custom turbo back exhaust vs TurboXS Turbo Back
So this last weekend I went over to a muffler shop in Whittier, CA where a bunch of S2000 guys apparently get custom work done. I was looking to get a 3" mandrel bent turbo back exhaust custom made to a Prodrive Muffler I would provide. They quoted be a very good price ($300).
I was looking into the TurboXS Stealth Back Exhaust (http://www.fastwrx.com/tursuptursys.html), which costs a good $400+ more.
So my question is... if this place can provide pretty much the same work, what should I ask them to look out for when creating the custom setup? Say I asked them to place the O2 sensor in roughly the same area as the stock exhaust, would it still throw CELs?
Actually, this is a pretty open ended question. Even though it's more expensive, I'm leaning towards the TurboXS exhaust because they've done a lot more WRX tuning than these guys (who pretty much do all S2000s these days). I could be a guinea pig and be a test subject, but I'm not so sure I want to risk it.
Any suggestions?

I would think that the shop woul have a hard time making a bellmouth for the downpipe. I just got and installed the TXS stealth system. The downpipe openning at the back of the turbo is big enough to fit my hand and forearm into. Another choice that you have is to buy a down pipe of your choice and then have the shop do the rest of the system. As for fit and finish of the TXS system I woul give it a 9/10. The install took about 2.5 hours.

if you want something like that made at least get a manufactured downpipe, because it would be hard for them to create a bellmouth and the downpipe has to with stand alot of heat since it is connected to the back of the turbo this is why all of the good ones are made with a higher grade of stainless steel, 304 or 321.

I've got the answers for you. Been there, researched that.
The only missing link to your puzzle is the APS - High Flow Turbo Outlet housing for $115. This is the perfit solution for you. Here is a link to learn more:
http://www.aps-wrx.com/wrx/housing.htm
Here is what I am doing. Full turboback for around $400 including:
- APS HFTO
- High flow Magnaflow cat
- Borla ProXS muffler
- Custom made pipe
- Exhaust tip
Here's the link to the MattSpec Turboback:

Where did you order the APS turbo outlet housing from? If that is your site in the previous post it says it is from Passen Motorsports in Columbus, OH, but when I called them they wanted 185 for it. Do you know anywhere else that sells these things for less?

The APS turbo outlet housing can be damn hard to find at times, limited demand and supply. Another solution would be either a Bosal or Stromung downpipe. The Stromung is cheaper ($189 vs. $224) but doesn't come with gaskets. Both are nice well built units and are available everywhere. Then just have the rest of the system built from there. The cost differences between the three, in the end, are marginal.
Matt's way is a great way to go and I have recommended it to lots of people. However, I have heard that the price for APS turbo outlet housing varies widely (as low as $115 and as high as $169) and availability can be an issue. If your not in a rush, just wait and some will become available. If time is a pressing issue, than just grab a Bosal or Stromung and get welding.

Like said earlier, getting a turboxs stealthback would give you higher quality stainless steel parts, rather than the steel or aluminum parts that the custom parts will provide. The stainless steel parts will last longer, and you get a warrantee with the brand name one.

My current set-up is very similar to a TurboXS stage 2 except I don't have a UTEC and I didn't spend 2 grand on it. So far I've spent less than $500. If you get the TurboXS stage 2 you'll be spending more than $2,000. So you make the decision.
Current set-up:
HKS DP
fabricated 3" pipes with a Buddy Club exhaust.
MBC @15 psi
Blitz intake

Not bad, but I can't run a MBC on my 04. It doesn't work well with the changes in the ECU. I am going to go with an Access port instead. Hopefully will have it later this month
