I was cruising around highway around 75-80 MPH on 5th gear.
I was not racing. I was on the throttle gently. All of sudden I hear my engine ROAR, so I looked at the tach, my rev was past redline, and reached 8.5K, what happed was my 5th gear popped out of my gear box. So my question is could this little incident caused any damages? I called the dealer, and they said I should be OK, but I'm still little edgy. Some people said the ECU probably cut fuel off at redline, etc. I just want some answers.

 

Your ECU should cut fuel at redline.

How could your gear just pop out? I'd be worried about this than the engine.

Could you have accidentally bumped it and popped it out?

ECU fuel cut off is 7,200 rpm. Since your engine was not driving anything, and there was no fuel to combust, the loads on it would have been small (e.g. compared to full throttle acceleration) so it should be fine.

Get your gearbox checked though - they should definitely not jump out of gear.

 

I had that happen to me once.. you were using the cruse control right ?

my passenger went to reach for something and bumped the stick into nutral. Before I knew what happened I was bouncing off the rev limiter.

didnt seem to hurt anything. The ECU has a rev limiter for a reason to save the engine from any damage like that
