Reflash + UTEC
Any thoughts on running a UTEC with a reflashed ECU?
I know it's pricey but here's my thinking.
I've tuned with piggybacks before on my previous car with the main drawback being the limitations of having the piggyback trying to fool the stock ECU. For mild mods it is no big deal but for larger changes to turbos and injectors the limitations of a piggyback begin to show.
I'd like to get a reflash for STi injectors and a moderately sized turbo (don't know what "stage" yet) so that later when I up the ante I'd throw on the UTEC and tune with that. The total cost of course would be about as much as a stand alone but I like the ease of installation and adjustability of the UTEC.
p.s. my local Autronic distributer has said a US WRX specific application will be available soon. plug and play

But are reflash for larger injectors would actually change the duty, while the UTEC is essentially fooling the ECU into thinking there is more or less air to alter duty cycle (and timing). Right???

If you plan on running the PE series injectors on with a UTEC it makes sense to have someone that knows how to reflash the stock ECU for the different pulse width scaling as the PE series on time and wakeup width are slower with the PE series causing some headaches with UTEC tuning.
Look for Clark (azscoobie on the other board) for someone that has done a ton of this.

as i understand it, the key to the reflash advantage is that you can alter the injector parameters.
you can scale the fuel delivery with the utec alone, but altering the MAF signal by greater and greater amounts leads to different load cells being used for timing, etc.
essentially the reflash + utec ends up being easier to tune and more stable. cons: mo money!

That's exactly what I'm thinking. As far as cost I'm comparing a full plug and play standalone like the AEM or Autronic versus a $500 reflash and $1000 UTEC. The benefit of the flash+UTEC is keeping the stock ECU and all the little things that it does which may or maynot be available on a stand alone. Thanks everyone for their input.
