What clutch to get?

I'm coming up on 100,000 miles on my WRX still on the stock clutch, but I'm thinking I'd probably be best off replacing it before it goes, rather than being stranded north of the Arctic circle in the middle of February.

The dealer quoted me (this is for parts only) about $300 for the stock replacement, over $600 for the 5mm STI clutch and cover and probably about $750 for the 8mm STI kit.

So I wanted to ask you guys, are there any better aftermarket options out there? can anyone speak from experience about differences between Exedy, ACT, or Centerforce and the STI kits?

Since I never had any real problems with the stock rig, I might just opt to go with the stock replacement, but I'd be curious to hear what, if any benefits there would be in going with either STi part or any other aftermarket clutch assy.

Anybody want to share their experiences on this subject?

Thanks!

(woo hoo! my post count is up to 8!!!!!! )

hm sorry to ride on ur post, but I want to also ask how hard the wrx, sti, and other aftermarket clutches engage (bite) and such and such.... I've only driven my RS thus far...

so much to do, so little time....

no problem, there doesn't seem to be much traffic here anyway.
I can't compare to the RS having not driven one, but from my experience with the stock WRX clutch, it seems to have an interesting feel - it doesn't like being slipped, but if it gets heated real fast (ie trying to recover by blipping the throttle feathering the clutch out of too low a gear) is gets both quite stinky and somewhat slippery.
When operated properly it still has a somewhat soft engagement but does hold on fine even compared to the german cars I've been driving previously.
The STi is quite a bit firmer to the pedal, and considerably more direct in engagement when compared to the WRX clutch

i have never heard anything bad about the exedy organic clutch. i have driven with it couple times and it has a much better feel than the act. someone told me that the sti clutch is exedy.

i have the exedy street clutch with the exedy lightened flywheel and still have stock engine.

i really like it. has a stronger clamping force (25% more) and after a little break in its able to slip a little more when i want it to. the exedy hyper single is a bit too much as that is pretty much an on/off type deal.

only problem that i have with it is there is some clutch shudder, but i think that is probably more from the lightened flywheel
