Trany Problem

I have been having this problem with my trans every morning and basicaly through out the day, Where I cannot get it to go in reverse without rolling it foreward or putting it into 1st and rocking it then sliding it into reerse... Also 4th seems to be an issure that just started about a few weeks ago... checked the oil level and it was low so I put the oil in it that it required (from the dealer) and it worked fine for a week.
Has anyone else had this problem? and it is still under warente and there is no major mods except for the STi full exhaust. it also has about 42000 and it is an 04.

Please help.

Oh and I did take it into the dealer once before and they said it was fine and the tech had no problem and the service clerk said the same thing... and I had the same problem in the parking lot.. Unfortualty they closed and locked the door behind me... -_-

This is a VERY common problem on the WRX's, something the dealership will not fix unless it breaks. I had just over 40,000 on my wagoon and I started having the 4th gear grind and then my tranny blew (sheared the teeth in second gear). My reverse gear never went in smooth throughout its entire life, even with my STi RA gears it still doesn't go into reverse smooth. I'm not saying your tranny is about to break, either. It has something to do with the synchros. Whatever you do, I would recommend NOT changing your oil to fully synthetic in your trans. I think that's what aided in my fourth gear grind and breaking my trans.

yeah, its common. AFAIK reverse has no syncro, just a straight cut gear. I double clutch, rev, shift to 1st, rock...ect to get in in reverse. Just dont go into reverse while moving.

Cant help with the 4th gear grind, that sucks. I agree with smitty^^dont use synthetic, 75w90 non-synthetic gear oil works good in my 02 wrx with 47K and grind free *crosses fingers* Good Luck
