launching WRX
I think Gordy's wat is pretty good. That is the method I would recommend anyway. When launching an AWD car, you have to decide to either slip the clutch and punish your clutch, or drop the clutch and pick up the pieces of your gears off the ground.... Clutches are relatively cheap to replace. Trannies aren't... Also, I would not recommend that you launch at every light... If you need power, bolt on a few parts so that you will be less reliant on the AWD launch to win. This is what I did. I personally can't vouch for Subaru's 0-60 claims for the stock WRX, but my car as is sits now is making those numbers now simply by virtue of having the whp and torque to accelerate to 60mph that quickly, and not because of the AWD launch. If I did decide to use the AWD launch, I estimate that my 0-60 times would be between 3 and 4 seconds. I will not be testing this out though!
I personally do not launch my car ever. What I did instead is to strap a bigger turbo to my engine, so that I can beat out the competition with a normal street launch. Victims include the E46M3 and other fast cars. With a big enough turbo, I can go normally, and as soon as my turbo wakes up, I go flying right by the competition. I fugure that since I want to end up with well over 300whp when I am all done (I have 290whp right now), I try to baby the tranny as much as possible so that it can take the power levels I will be throwing at it.
Good Luck!

jigga, not a bad idea getting a bigger turbo and beating the competition wen hitting turbo rpms. but... u thing is u still need to launch harder otherwise, ur turbo kik wont be as effective as someone who is reving up to 4000rpm which is peak torque, and launching it with full throttle. u still need to be tough on ur wrx or its not gona go 0-60 in 5 seconds, and bone stock WRX's can only go 5 seconds, 4 seconds is STi, u need to uprade the WRX before u can hit 4 seconds from 0-60. simple bolt ons will do. one of the main reasons the STi gets a big stock advantage is the STi uppipe, its basically straight pipe with no cats unlike the WRX uppipe, it comes very small piping with cats. just replace the WRX upppipe and other pipes and u are on ur way to 4 seconds 0-60.

the wrx is 5.4 barely and the STi is 4.6...the STi has many advantages...not just the uppipe...the best way to go is do mods that will improve low end torque and then dont launch hard
