any WRX owners DRIVEN an SRT-4
Two of my friends almost died in a Neon. Still dont like them. Subies definatly more safe than the neon. We have alot more rigidity in our shell, so that it wont crumple on the driver. I was in a pretty severe accident with my 2003 WRX. The car was totalled, but I walked away with no injury. Dont know if I would be saying the same if I was in a neon.

Plain and simple just like gdogg said,
neon = profit before quality and safety
impreza = quality and safety before profit which = Japan's pride and honor in their work.
plain and simple the impreza is a safer car than a neon.

Honestly I thought the wrx had more potential due to awd...
I mean you can keep putting as much hp into a FF as you want, all its going to mean is more wheel spin, even with the LSD...
I guess thats all fine if your racing from a roll. But I agree with most when I say that FFs arent made to be sports cars... Just due to the laws of physics they have to have understeer, no matter how you set them up. Granted this is also true of AWD because there is still some power going to the front, but to a much lesser extent.
I was faced with this choice and chose the wrx... honestly I think its the better car, not saying the SRT isnt good, Its very well ballanced through all of the gears but at least 4 me I think the wrx was the better choice

Hope This Helps
I was in the market for both cars, and have test driven both cars and spent a lot of time with owners of each. A G35 coupe was also a choice in my book, but i ruled it out due to plans of eventually getting my own condo, because that takes money, and G35 is out of my range.
The 2004 SRT-4 - Looking at the car isnt impressive, its a Ricer... No matter what you do, it's still a neon... Crappy interior, except those sexy seats, instrumentation is nice, but nothing impressive at all. but yeah you can grow accustomed to the shape and think of it as a not so bad car. Sit inside, NOW its a different story... One rev of that engine and you know its packing some serious *********. all of a sudden you forget youre sitting in a Piece of **** Dodge. 1st gear is a goner... most owners i talk to only use it when racing, its basically a burn out gear... you can EASILY start in second, its got enough torque.... First gear disappears (this one had LSD from factory it was an 04) not too much torque steer, but enough to have u keep the wheel straight. shift to second and GOD that power just keeps COMING AND COMING... the seat of the pants feel is incredible and dodge did an amazing job at this powertrain. The power just keeps coming and coming...
The WRX sedan. Practical, built better, stronger, will last longer, but slower. I feel a lot safer in the WRX, its more SOLID than an SRT-4. nicer interior... etc etc... More CAR than the srt-4. Behind the wheel, first and second gear are beautiful, nice smooth power delivery, but a dissappointing drop of boost near the higher rpm range. now enter 3rd gear and you may as well bust out a book.... things start slowing down near the mid to high ranges of 3rd... 4th gear is your cruise gear, lol and umm 5th? i guess that gas save mode. lol. the advantage of AWD is definitely nice to have at a light and always be the first one out of the hole without much effort. I live in CA so its not really the wet/snow advantage, just the grip advantage. its also a lot of fun (after some simple suspension upgrades) to go into corners at higher speeds and exit with that boost.
Heres my suggestion to you. 1/4 mile, the SRT will own the WRX he will reel you in near 2nd gear and own you by 4th, im talking at least 2 carlengths depending on the driver. The SRT-4 is better comparable to the EVO, they have been known to take them off rolls, so that the EVO doesnt get its AWD advantage.
Now think about this. Whats more important to you? the fact that you will beat most cars in a straight line, but will have to be shakey and worried if youre ever in a position where you need to make a quick steer to the left or right? lets be honest its got LSD, but if you downshift and need to get out of an emergency situation, you will enter the world of no control wheelspin. its got a lot of torque... The WRX is more manageable at a dangerous situation and provides the driver more confidence to make his move and avoid an accident. whereas in an SRT, at higher speeds id rather rear end someone than try avoiding them and destroying the car and possibly myself. On top of all this, the WRX is safer and does better in crash tests.
one last thing before i go on to my final statement, SORRY IM JUST TRYING TO HELP YOU OUT, IVE BEEN IN THE SAMMMMMEEE SITUATION
The SRT-4 crowd is composed mostly of high schoolers, with egos, and that car just adds to their irresponsibility, they are a load of jerks as well.... WRX's however have their share of *******s, but usually the community is composed or most age groups who are willing to help, and are friendly, also vary in age ranges... The WRX has a great history, and the community is always ready to help out...
Do yourself a favor get the WRX. Now, you were mentioning how you dont want to modify because of warranty issues. get an AccessPORT, that will put an end to the higher RPM boost fall out, and this mod REALLY wakes the car up, also you can always revert back to factory specs in less than a minute. You will be very happy with the car, and find it difficult to look at that turbocharged Dodge casket.
You pay for what you get.
My .20 cents, it was a whole lot more than .02 :-D

Hi there, thats awsome. By the way, srt 4 has cast iron block and has aluminum head, so when the engine heats up, the expansion of the block and the head is un even which is bad because the head stretches so much to compensate with the block's size. Ridiculus. Handling is horrible. You cant drive it more than 60kms/hr during rain, the car starts to chug. So i guess youll be driving along the side of the road with grandma while our awd passes by.

you are right boost addict. you do pay for what you get. the SRT4 is a great car, it has a lot of power potential, yet so does the WRX. if you think about it, the WRX is making 227hp with a 2.0L, USDM version. it comes with 3 cats on it!
the SRT4 is a 2.4L so it is more capable of power.. but its foundation is a FWD. its a good thing they gave the SRT4 lsd cause its going to need that traction. the WRX is slower than the srt4 stock vs stock. but how much slower?? barely a big difference considering the WRX displacement and its restrictions.. seriously.. the wrx has SUPER potential. where the SRT4 in my opinion has a lot of power potential but given the WRX's AWD drivetrain.. that gives it a a BIG advantage.. now if the SRT4 would have not been so cheap and given it AWD also.. that would be a difference story... AWD is more capable of sick launches.. launch it at rev limiter and you will see a WRX launch on any car. personally.. if you want to beat the competion even in a drag race.. or on a roll.. the WRX has the potential and capabilities to humiliate any car with more displacement. the WRX has STi blood in it.. you cant *** with STi genetics. and same goes for a lancer EVO. AWD 4 banging boost. axis power is real power.

sure u can. borrow away! =)
i might be wrong. about the SRT4.. but if i had to bet 1 million dollars on which car id like better. it would be WRX all t he way. my friend has a wrx.. totally fixed up.. i have seen the damage he has done. to his opponents. im not proud to say i know a street racer.. but i am proud to say that i know someone who is a down *** racer and has shown me the real deal. he has humiliated many cars. i dont wanna say which cars cause ill bring out a lot of haters that dont kno wat they are takin about. but this is all i can say. only a few certain kinds of cars can hang or beat a fixed up WRX launching at rev limiter. cause when my friend launches his WRX at 7000rpm with a stock tranny and stock internals.. he humiliates the opponent cause the only way the opponent can prevent being humiliated is if he drives the same way my friend does and is in a AWD turbo car.. EVO WRX STI 911 turbo.... all the same bloodline.. AWD, TURBO.. only thing that can give it a run is a sportbike or literbike. again.. the SRT4 is missing a crucial factor... that is AWD.

SRT-4 v.s. WRX...
My coworker has a 2004 STR-4 with MOPAR stage 2 and a CAI. I have a 2002 WRX with COBB stage 2.5 (with AcessPort). Recently we took both cars out around a little loop by our work, in an industrial area. The run started with a short straight, a quick 90 degree right, about an 1/8-mile straight, then 90 deg left, straight, left, straight (fast, about 1/6 th mile), then sharp (70 degree) left into a narrow street which stops at a stop light.
Even though the SRT-4 was not too far behind in the straights, it was in the turns where the WRX really shined. The SRT just did not have enough traction to put the power down in the turns. The inside front wheel would spin wildly while the entire front end would push into heavy understeer.
The point is, its not how much power you can make, (and both cars are very capable in that respect, with the SRT-4's displacement being an advantage) but how much you can transfer effectively to the payvement. That's useable power! The greatest performance limitation of the Neon is its front wheel drive... and there is no way around that...
