any WRX owners DRIVEN an SRT-4

I haven't read this whole thing to see what has been said- but aside from actual 1/4 mile times between the two- look at the 1/4 mph- the Neon makes the WRX look stupid by ~10 mph stock vs. stock from the ones I have seen at the track!!! Not everyone lives their lives a 1/4 mile at a time like Vin, some people prefer real world performance and driving. For the average guy AWD holeshots are not as common an occurence as part throttle roll ons which is where the SRT4 owns the WRX- and if you do live holeshot to holeshot, be prepared to replace the trans in the WRX occassionally
. Bottom line, the SRT4 is a faster car with gobs of potential- the guys saying they blow up are message board lurkers, they don't ahve first hand experience, so take it with a grain of salt. The WRX engine is no bullet proof combo either so ignore that crap. It all boils down to what is best for you. The WRX has superior build quality to any dodge product, AWD which is good for holeshots if that is important and is great in the snow- especially if you like playing around lol. The Neon is faster, has the potential to be faster yet and with a set of blizzaks in the front won't be too bad in the snow either- it'll get you around, just not as well as an AWD. If you care about real world driving and acceleration- the SRT4 takes it hands down.

.I do agree though for comfort and especially quality, the WRX has it- but if you want the speed, the SRT4 is hard to beat for the price.

FYI "Real world" driving to me is more about handling and power transfer to the pavement than a roll-on light-to-light drag racing. Neon's FWD is never going to match WRX's AWD. In a recent article the SRT was even outhandled by the Saturn Ion Red Line!
I am speaking from experience, too. Please read my earlier post on this thread from 11/08.
Cheers!
Here is my test drive with an SRT last summer. Dont flame for the way I drove, that was in another thread. Just some fun facts about the car.
The other day I was bored as sh*t. So my buddy and I decide to go test drive some cars. First stop of the day was at the local dodge dealership. Where we talked our way into driving an SRT. My buddy hops in the pass seat as I am in the driver. The salesman hopps in the back "I have to go with you". He also quoted "This thing is really fast", "it handles like no other", and "it stops on a dime". So I decided to see how correct he was. While getting myself ready to drive this little pos he claims "95% of the drivers cant put this car to its limits" and "I notice you have a quick car (STi), so I dont need to inform you how to drive this". I pull out of the dealership and head to the highway. Get on to the on ramp and punch it. I keep on the little red neon all the way up to 105mph. The salesman is squiggling around in the back very nervous, as my buddy is laughing. We come up to the exit ramp and I through it in neutral, waiting to brake untill the last moment. "See it has very nice brakes." I then get back on the highway and am doin around 90mph. I get off and there is a long sharp right hand 30mph curve for the exit ramp. I am pushing this car through the curve, squealing the tires. Then another lane is added on the right with a left hand turn then a traffic light. Well a semi is in the right lane around this turn, so I speed up and take the inside lane, merge into the right lane (in front of semi), drop the car to 2nd gear (w/o brakes) and fly around this right hand turn. Pull into the dealership with my buddy laughing histarically and the salesman saying that "you are in that 5% of people". I left, and didnt call them back.
Short version:
I took the SRT to its limits. I wasnt very impressed with its highway acceleration 70-110. The brakeing was ok, and it handled very well for a fwd, but not nearly as good as the Subies. Granted my car is close to 10g more, but the interior felt real cheap, seats were uncomfortable, exhaust rumbled, but in the wrong way, and it only had two power windows. Teh subie's are soo much better of cars.

All depends on your definition of "real world" I guess. I appreciate acceleration over handling. Don't get me wrong, I don't want anything that handles like a barge, but the Neon handles fine for me. The only advantage the WRX has is the AWD even in handling- the body roll of it reminds me of a cavalier. I also do a lot of highway driving- so the AWD means nothing there except worse gas mileage in all actuality lol. I prefer the AWD for the holeshot and the winter fun you have with it
. As for the traction advantage of the AWD and the extra weight keeping the rear planted, it does help transfer power better and greatly improves throttle-on handling, however the neon actually feels "tighter"- just don't expect to hit the throttle through any of those turns
. To date, I have owned 136 cars (all registered- not counting "parts cars" lol)- so I certainly have some experience comparing pros and cons of each lol.

I test drove an 05 SRT-4 and it did have alot more power than my 04 WRX. I noticed it right away, and the car felt tight as hell, very stiff in the corners. I came away impressed. I think I could trade off alittle torque steer for that right now power as I hate how my wrx bogs then comes alive. Like anything try one before you diss it.
The facts really come down to where you live (basically if you'll be driving in inclement weather on a daily basis, considering the season) AWD vs FWD and also if your interested in longevity of the car. If you plan on keeping it for a while - statistcally japanese built automobiles are proven to be on the road longer (with proper maintenance) than any American car out there! Thats a fact! By the way ----Vishnu absolutely sucks those crazy bastards are money hoarding mongers - You can put a better package together for a whole lot less than what their asking.

. Sorry, just got into it with some morons over there earlier. Anyway, you made some very good points in your post. I considered an SRT4, but after owning a new 03 Mustang GT convertable and losing my *** on the trade in, I promised myself no more new american cars, they just don't hold their value!! The SRT4 is a great performer for the price, however don't expect it to be worth anything you put into it nor hold up as well as the WRX (build quality wise- not drivetrain wise if you mod
).Joe
