I'm sure the SRTs better rubber goes a long way, but I knew I had made the right choice. Either way, love the car you drive. The SCC article on the SRTs motor gave it two huge thumbs up. That thing is built.

C'mon, kids!
You have to look at the two cars subjectively!
Lets compare stock-to-stock new:
SRT-4:
Pros:
1) Cheap
2) Fast
3) Good aftermarket potential
Cons:
1) Cheap (poor build quality, materials, fit and finish)
2) FWD (Torque steer like hell / traction loss)
3) Lack of refinement / Adolescent image (ala mustang/camaro)
WRX:
Pros:
1) Affordable
2) Fast
3) Aftermarket potential
4) AWD
5) More refined / More mature "euro" image (ala porsche)
Cons:
1) AWD losses (drag/weight)
2) More expensive than SRT-4
3) A little slower (in some conditions) than SRT-4
Both cars are great fun! It all depends on what appeals to you. Thank god we live in a country where we have choices.
Of course most Subaru owners (and this IS a SUBARU forum) will recommend WRX over SRT-4. Thats why most of us chose a Subaru in the first place...
Askig which one is "better" is like asking if strawberry is better than raspberry, chocolate is better than vanilla, or blue is better than red... It all depends on your individual taste! Whatever rocks your boat, baby! To each his/her own!
FYI, there are other car geeks out there that point at our bug-eyed-4-door kind and laugh and spit, so, thats their right. I'm not loosing any sleep over it and I surely do not argue with them...
In conclusion, I like my WRX. I tweaked it a little the way I like it, and it is perfect for me. I would pick it over the Neon any day. I love the feel of the AWD, and I dont drag race...
Cheers!
Maniac.
P.S. Now, the Mini Cooper-S is a bug-eyed BLAST to drive

I'll give it a try!
Let me see...
SRT-4: Small, kinda round, low to the ground, round headlights, has a hood scoop.
Forester XT: SUV/wagon-like, boxy, sits high above ground, has rectangular headlights, has a hood scoop.
I think thats a perfect comparisson!
I think this comparisson is just the thing to help someone make-up their mind!
I think next we should compare a lobster to a sewing machine!
Happy holidays!
(Please forgive me, I've been drinking!!! )

Ive driven a SRT-4, WRX and Forester XT . The Forester is the quickest one of the bunch, it just does not handle as well. The SRT-4 took the corners better than the WRX, but its a DODGE and you better sell it before the warr. is up. I boy racer looks are ok and the seats are like the VIPERS. The turbo lag is the worst in the WRX, the SRT-4 and Forester is not bad under 3k.
When your done sewing your panties, your lobster is ready Maniac, sorry, i havnt been drinking.

Hey downshift
Downshift, I get the feeling that you've never driven an SRT4 before. Before you make such qualifying judgements about a car it would be better to drive one around first. I've driven a slightly modified WRX before and compared to a stock SRT4 there is a big enough difference in torque and power that you can tell the SRT4 is faster from a roll. Stock for stock, SRT4 is faster than WRX, and if you invested as little as $1500 you could have a 12.6 second SRT4 (www.srtgurl.com for example) which would be comparable to an STi not a WRX, for less than the price of a new WRX.

Hey, civictd04! How much would it cost to convert an SRT-4 to All Wheel Drive?
Ever think of it that way?You see, I have driven an SRT-4. Yes, you are right, it is darn fast, but it handles and behaves like a FWD... Understeer, torque steer, loss of traction, etc...
I hate to repeat myself, but if going fast in a straight line and drag racing is your thing, then go for it! But it does not make the SRT-4 a better car!
I'll take the pants off of any SRT with my WRX on snow, gravel, mud, dirt, ice, or any other less than perfect road surface. And if the road is curvey, like the canyons we have here, then I'll see your SRT at the bottom of the gully!
