I remember back in the 80s or VERY early 90s there were signs on the freeway that said "Save gas, drive slower"... It never made sense to me, are you really saving gas if you're going slower? I mean, if you're going faster you're getting to your location in a faster period of time so of course its going to use more gas over the same period of time but you'll get to where you're going much quicker so it evens out, no? I can see saving a tiny bit of gas, but if you're going 10mph faster I don't see the harm.

I've wondered for years why no one points out that by going faster, and getting to your destination quicker, you stop using gas sooner. I wonder where it "breaks even"? When I get to my destination 5 minutes before the person going 55 or 60 mph, and I was going 75 or 80, I'm not using ANY gas for 5 minutes.

I give those people a look and shake my head. Thats all thats needed.
remember those peopla all carry cell phones now days. I hear 4-5 calls to 911 for fingers, brake checks, swarving.. They call and report your car if you do anything more then pass and shake.
When they do report you. They tell the chp you were speeding at 90+ almost hit their car and weaving in and out of traffic.
I had a guy report me one day passing his 50mph *** in the fast lane. I heard the call and what he said. I called and reported that guy for being drunk in the fast lane afterwards.
He very well could have been.
CHP logs all phone calls. Those people with time get listed as crying wolf. Then their calls drop down the response chain.
Just remember they will call 911 on you...

I've called 911 on someone twice, both because they were obviously drunk and a danger to everyone on the road. The 2nd time CHP called me back and I directed the CHP car in on the drunk guy. "What does your car look like?" "It's the blue subaru with the big wing..." lolz
I don't know about you guys, but I'd much prefer to get to wherever the hell I'm going even 5 minutes sooner than to spend that 5 minutes in traffic patting myself on the back for saving gas. For me, there is no benefit to driving slow - nada, none, zilch. If I am forced to because of traffic, fine, but if there is open road, I'm going to go as fast as I reasonably can.
As an aside, anyone notice people drive at a snail's pace on 101 North around Burlingame? And then, as soon as you get around Millbrae, it just opens up? What the hell is going on over there? Are people scared of the narrow shoulders or uneven roads? Are people really being deterred by that 55mph sign? What are they, morons?

If you want a car example, a Veyron can get to LA in 2 hours...but still used more gas than any car ever would.
So if you want to get to LA in 4 hours...you'd better expect 20mpg
and if you wanna get there in 5 hours...you'd better expect 24 mpg...for my car at least lol
i've always wondered that. I know i've been called on a lot! lol i would love to see my "record" or "offenses" lol Not that i'm unsafe but i've been known to cut some road boulders off doing 65 in fastlane of commute traffic etc.
how else can this negatively effect me? is my plate on a record that the next CHP officer will see the next time i get pulled over if he wants to look into it as he's on his computer on the side of the road for 30 minutes and use it against me?
Say his initial plan was to let me off...but then he see's multiple people have reported my car as a wreckless driver...then he writes me the ticket after all

But thats like saying a fighter jet can get to LA in 30 minutes...but you cant tell me it used less gas than a car would...

well the car going 60 has to work a teeny bit more than the one doing 55...that teeny bit more is equal to the "extra gas used" by the 55 car spending more time on the road that youre talking about.
so its all even in the end as far as i know or think.
Its like someone sprinting 100 yards and same person running 100 yards...start with same heartbeat per minute...and end with same heart beat per minute because sprinting used more energy, but also has more time to rest at the end...while running used less energy and didnt need much time to rest...i dont know makes sense to me.

like on a twisty road...usually trucks...their V8's can lose you on a straight, but when a turn comes you catch up as they take a 35mph turn at 25 and they still wont pull over for you...i hate that.

Really there is no data base you get dumped into that I have seen.
I do know it does get logged.. But other then that.. Just play safe.
But keep in mind.. They write it down in car and dispatch can remember from the other day... I hear that allot.
I used to get in front and tap the brakes to knock the offender off cruise control and drop a hint..
