Why should I buy an STi over an EVO?

You read it wrong/different car/different place/different day.
It is 50/50 no matter what. The Active Center Diff (ACD) just controls the speed of lockup and is the only electronically controlled part of the system. It's arguably more passive than the Suabrus DCCD which actually changes the torque split front to back.
On the new USDM 2008 Evos, AYC (active yaw control) is also used, but that just changes the power given to each side of the rear diff left to right, the split front to back is still 50/50

"Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has developed two new component systems that are expected to feature in the new Lancer Evolution*, due to be launched this autumn. S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) is an advanced vehicle dynamics control system that regulates drive torque at each wheel. Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission) is an automated manual transmission that delivers slicker shifting through the gears while freeing the driver from the need to operate the clutch."(motorauthority)
this is where i read it, but the site happens to be about the new EVO X and it reads that it just regulates, not separates..
sorry for my misunderstanding..

when i was in the snow it happened to feel as if the car was confused compared to driving my wrx...
maybe it was just the difference in machines, but i didn't feel as if i had the same stability

I love my STI, but i actually just took a ride in my buddys stock evo8 and that thing was quick. Im not sure on the handling as we didnt really go onto any turns, but the straight line speed is quick. I was totally suprised though on how much it pulled. (this was my first time in a evo too) I wouldnt get the EvoX, but i would get the evo9 in a heart beat. I say you drive them back to back and see which one is better to you.
