[QUOTE=chinoyboi;2432020]And yes, I do know how much people hate Evos on this forum and how its bad to go to "the dark side".

That's not true. I think many i-club member likes EVO as well. I know I do. 4G63 is very good engine.

Where have you heard that Evo's break down? Have you driven the Evo to say that u don't like the electronic AWD? To be perfectly honest, I think that goes with all cars.
i have driven a couple Evo's(5spd's) and cornering is awesome, but sometimes, while u are losing traction, thats when i didn't like the Electronic AWD, it felt as if i was in a car that didn't know what it wanted to do.. ie:snow...

but yes, as u said it goes with all cars, but since i go alot of different places, snow, ice, dirt, asphalt.... i enjoy the all the time awd, 40/60 spilt for all the time

but if i was to make a track only car, i would perfer the EVO..

its all about personal refence on the car..

but dont come at me like i know nothing...

I would say if you're gonna keep the car stock then go with the STi. But i personally would pick the Evo just because I would want to try something different. I do know of DSM guys that switched to suby's because they were tired of always fixing their DSMs though.

Evo:
Has way better steering response/feel
Can make way more power easily on the stock turbo.
Can change your cams without pulling the motor (this is huge).
Easier to fit larger wheels/tires.
Recaro seats

STi:
Bulletproof tranny
Easier to change clutch (but then again how many times are you planning on changing your clutch?)

chinoyboi, what is it that you want to do with the car? Depending on your answer it's hard to say which one you should get.

I'll give you my honest and unbiased (AFAIK) opinion:

- building a beast car, I'm saying $15k+ in mods I'd buy an EVO. There's so much cool stuff you can do with it. When we're talking about ultra high HP daily drivers I think the EVO community is still ahead of subaru

- building a minorly modded car, ~$5k in mods I'd get the STI. There's some pretty good stuff you can put in an STI for cheap and have a very civil, and easy driving car with that 2.5l motor

You can also do what I did, which is mod the **** out of a bugeye, but that's hella stupid

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning to an evo just to try something different, But I don't really plan on changing the clutch that often. I don't really plan on turning my car into a race car. The recaro seats and the momo steering wheel is really bad ***. But I think in terms of trying to get a better understanding of cars, I think it'd be pretty interesting to get to know an inline since I've gotten my hands in a H4

I guess basic mods, I'm not really sure on the pros and cons of each mod, but I'm basically going for a power mod replacing the intake, turboback exhaust. I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of an evo, but definitely going to replace the exhaust and definitely get a cobb AP. In terms of suspension, I doubt I'll be modding the suspension since I read that the suspension is really good on an Evo and I kinda like the somewhat high suspension of the Evo, got that rally look. If I get an STi, pretty much the same path, turboback exhaust and Cobb AP.

In terms of mods, I doubt I'll be spending THAT much on mods, this is again, a daily driver for me and I just want to churn out that extra HP with some tuning and exhaust parts. But what kind of things can you do with an Evo. See, the reason I modded my wrx is to match up to the power of a STi, and now that I'm going for an Evo or STi, I don't feel the real urge to go all out on mods since the power will be pretty sufficient for my taste. I'd just want to do some simple mods like a tune and exhaust.

Well, after reading all your guy's post, I feel a little comfortable about buying either an Evo or a STi since both are positive in just about every aspect, it's just a manner of personal preference, since most of the comments made were small things like how much you can mod something or which is better in the long run. But it's still a coin toss and having trouble deciding between the two.

drive both, then make ur decision.

see which one u will really enjoy and if it is going to be a DD, make sure u like the drivetrain, the suspension, the power, the interior... etc.

make sure u are 100% happy..

Which is the hard part, since I can only have one. I have yet to drive the STi, but looking back at my WRX, i was seriously plenty happy with it, except that I would've bought some suspension parts for it, and if I get an evo or sti, i think i'll be plenty happy with the ride height and suspension.

Well one thing I've noticed with an evo is that it's definitely more ricey looking than the STi where it's more civil.

How's the shifting on a STi? I like the shifting and clutch on the evo, it's much more solid, as opposed to my WRX, it was seriously sometimes a ***** to drive cause the clutch was a little loose for my taste.

well the shifting on an STI is quite alot different than a WRX..

and not having a short throw on ur WRX also makes the WRX tranny feel loosy goosy.. the clutch is quite light on a 2.0 wrx, but the 06-07 wrx's have quite heavier clutches.. the STi has a very nice Transmission feel, from shifting(Solid) to the clutch(firm and smooth)

but like i said, its all about personal preference

Does anybody have any actual data about the avg. resale values of used EVOs vs. STIs(STis)? I'd like to know how much cheaper used EVOs are supposed to be compared with the same mileage/options/wear and tear...

Well they're seriously about the same. The STi's are a little cheaper by about a grand or 2 more according to KBB. I'm looking at an 05 Evo, and it's going for about 24-26K and an 07STi is going for about 29K both with ~30K miles. But again, the Evo is 3 years old and the STi is about a year old

You can get a lot of power easily from an evo. With an intake, turboback exhaust, and a tune, my brother's evo 9 puts out power in the 290s at the wheels. I believe it was a mustang dyno. Just something for you to think about.

If you were broke down on the side of the freeway in your

Subaru
; the chances of another Subaru pulling over to help you out is high!

EVO; the other EVO owner will pass you and will say his car was faster. . .
