If I let my car sit a couple days, or even one night after a wash the brake rotors will be covered in surface rust. The next morning, when I pull out of the driveway I usually hear a clunk from the pads breaking free from the rusty rotors.

one of our 07 sti's did this while the other didnt. we just felt one was done on a good day lol.
I'm no expert...maybe some other STi owners can verify...but my 2005 STi does it, my 2000 Forester does it, every customer that owns an STi does it, other Subarus with w/ Brembos do it.
The tolerance between the pad & the caliper seems a little sloppy.
It's really only noticeable at parking speeds; backing out of a spot..clunk...going forward..clunk.

Anyone claiming to be an expert about cars is a liar.
I would hope you would be an expert! That makes sense. I have only had a few cars with solid "monoblock" (or whatever the term is) brake calipers. My Toyota makes noises in the rear brakes in a similar fashion when it's seriously heated up (like a track day) but this is on a car w/88k miles and these are floating calipers with pins that are famous for not floating so well.
Thanks for clearing that up - knowledge is power!

Very true. Anyone claiming to be an expert about anything is a liar, but it's okay for someone else to call one that and not degrade credibility. Comparatively since I have never touched an STi brake caliper, you are the expert here. Of course I understand how silly that sounds, but I just meant that for example - you would be a much better source of information about STi brakes than myself based on personal experience. I'm no expert, but I think this post is pointless.

If I am in a driveway put it in park, let off the brake and roll back a bit till it catches in park then put the ebrake on the next time I come back and put it into reverse it 'clunks'. So I try to avoid that, doesn't sound like the same thing tho.

Mine makes a clunk when going into reverse, I always thought it was something to do with the diff though
