Did you go to a community college? Did you finish college?
My first year was at Ohlone and I had money because I worked, but as soon as I got to a higher end school my money went to tuition, books, and supplies, and that was while working and with a huge loan.

Man, how could I have forgotten cans of tuna with crackers!?
My particular fav however is canned tun, strained, eaten with salt and vinegar chips, preferable the thick kettle cooked ones. The vinegar evens out the fish and makes it taste REALLY good.
Give it a try if you get a chance. If you like Salt and Vinegar, you'll LOVE THIS.

I hear you. I remember being so effin broke when I first got out of the army just trying to find a job, let alone a decent one. I remember several times having less than $20 to buy food to last me 2 weeks, seriously. What I had to do was go to grocery outlet (hella cheap, but almost expired food basically) and they had 4 for a dollar mac and cheese and 4 for a dollar cans of tuna (I wasnt about to be picky on whether it was water or oil added). I would make the mac and cheese with just water no milk and add the tuna. When you where hungry it was the most delicious thing you have ever had. I would also go to the wonder/hostess store and get $0.39 loaves of bread and freeze them so they wouldnt mold, and get a jar of mayo and some bologna (always the cheapest btw) and if I was really ballin that paycheck some processed cheese in the wrapper, lol. But top ramen and cup-o-noodles were a given, I think they were 5 for a dollar at the time I could take them to work so it was a winner.
hahha! Man, brings back memories!

Gotta wait for the sales! Sometimes Ranch Market 99 will have a sale, sometimes it'll be one of the Japanese supermarkets like Nijiya, Marukai, Mitsuwa, etc. Kinda gotta be lucky enough to stumble upon it, especially if you don't go to Japanese supermarkets often. I usually stock up when I come across a sale.

On a side note, I like the noodles so much that I sometimes put the soup base aside and stir-fry the noodles to make chow mein instead
Super al dente and not pre-fried like some of the cheaper instant noodles!

What my friends and I used to do on Guam. Go to 7-11 after a night of clubbing, get a super big gulp cup, while the boys keep the clerk busy with questions, fill cup with chili and nacho sauce. Buy a loaf of bread and you have a meal for 6-8. Cost back then was $3 for everything.

They're very al dente and have good texture that's firm and smooth (good "koshi"), better than the noodles that you get at many restaurants. I HATE mushy, limp noodles, and I feel that pre-fried noodles aren't healthy or even particularly delicous (unless it's Yee Fu noodles, that's a different story haha!). Also, there's very little kansui it it (alkaline mineral water, which produces an unpleasant taste when too much is present).
I'm very picky about my starches, ya know

look for the ichiban (i recommend beef flavor) and tung-i noodles (cheap and good, in the blue packet). pick up some bok choy and eggs to make it "fancy".
btw, everyone... it's "99 ranch market". my pops worked there for 15+ years.
