Better off keeping the stock catback and getting a down pipe. It's cheaper and you'll get better performance out of it.

I have a gutted stocker uppipe, catless prodrive shorty DP and the stock (catted) 3rd section and midpipe going to a Stromung dual tip. And a good amount of Dynamat/Dynapad in the trunk. That's about the right level of noise -- push the throttle and you get a nice rumble but it's not horribly intrusive. Wouldn't want it any louder for cruising, though.
