Anderson Silva tests positive for anabolic steroid metabolites in Jan. 9 drug test

Call me Nostradamus cuz not a few hours later after my post yesterday, I come across this...
UFC confirms Anderson Silva tests positive for steroids, Nick Diaz pops for marijuana | MMAjunkie
Seriously, guys?!?
And the other week, Ray mentioned how inconsistent the UFC brass has been about punishment of fighters. As if getting caught is bad enough for both the fighters and the organization, but the obvious favoritism topped with the "stance" that while these substances are banned, drug A carries a stigma that drug B doesn't so we'll bury this guy but not so much that one. Not to mention the way the media stirs the up the itshay-storm, too.

Silva makes money for Dana, he's not going to throw him under the bus just yet. Although Silva is old now and doesn't seem as interested in fighting anymore (esp when his kid is asking him to stop competing), Dana will wait till he suspends him. Might be time to move on anyways.
Yep, Dana ain't that big of a fool. He knows better than to mess with one of his cash cows.
And also I mos def got the sense that Anderson is seriously contemplating retirement, esp with the post-fight, in-ring remark of his son begging him. But it seems he's got his TUF Brazil 4 coaching commitment to get through first.
Speaking of TUF Brazil 4... should be interesting with the added fact that they'll be filming in Vegas for this international version.

Funny how this is such a surprise to ppl... Over 60% of athletes in pro sports and 70% in mma are using some kind of PED. There is always a cycle around the system. That said PED's don't make you hit harder, strike faster, or sprawl better... Not condoning it, but it enhances the reps during training it doesn't improve skill

My take on it is this... Dana keep protecting his cash cows. He does it by controlling who they fight and when... getting them the better match ups. And they do it by protecting them when crap like this happens.
Any other fighter gets strung up on Cocaine they're looking at suspensions, probably a loss and a fine. Dana keeps doing this it's going to backfire on him. He's loosing fans.
Me personally... I just hope they don't screw Diaz. Weed ain't gonna do anything but give him the munchies and help him gain weight to make it to the weight class.

I've known plenty of people that play sports better after they toke. It probably comes from their ADD/anxiety being in check. I used to think Diaz bros were so dumb that they couldn't put the joint down long enough to earn a paycheck but I'm realizing now that they're medicating through weed instead of pills.
Andy getting caught isn't really a surprise to me. I assume everyone is on something and for a 40 year old to stay competitive and come back from a leg snap, he'd have to be on something. In my eyes, it still doesn't hurt his legacy or take anything away from him.

at Silva's post-fight test failure. Not liking that it might be viewed as a stain on his otherwise stellar legacy. As long as more shizz doesn't pop up, I think he's got nothing to worry about re: his legendary status. And funny how a couple weeks back I mentioned his TUF Brazil 4 coaching commitment cuz not a few days later was he replaced by Minotauro when action from NSAC for the earlier test failure was a possibility.

Btw, anyone catch the free card over the wknd?
Bendo executed his gameplan well. If he wasn't able to avoid Thatch's aggression & damage in the early rounds, I didn't have much hope for him.
Hopefully, Thatch learns a lot from this fight. He shoulda listened to his corner a bit better btwn the 1st & 2nd or 2nd & 3rd when the told him to dial down the power and instead turn up the speed & quickness of his striking. I think he woulda had Bendo on his bike even more, and catch him w/ lesser shots yet still do some damage. He still has plenty of upside & room for growth.
