that would suck. In fact I think it would be pretty messed up. That's a good way to force people to upgrade to your newest stuff but it's terrible customer support. I'd be tempted to just do open source if they're going to do this. What about someone that buys a V1 at full price. Gets their tune and then drives it untouched for years. Now they decide they want a new tune like they were promised when they bought it... but they can't. That's B.S.
I don't think it has so much to do with forcing people to upgrade as much as actual limitations with the technology in the V1. I think the way the V1 worked was by storing changes from the stock map rather than storing the entire rom. So the more maps there are and the more potential changes, the more data needs to be stored. Eventually they run out of capacity and the tuner cannot change more parameters. They kinda screwed up on the design of the V1 in the first place.

Side note... How do you like the 255? I'm trying to figure out what the hell to do with my car. Planning on a new motor before the summer's over. Either that or I'm gonna sell the car and buy a forester XT... my wife wants me to buy a truck. BAH!
I like the 255 so far. After doing some research, I found the 55 has a lower compression ratio and is better for a hybrid build.

Interesting.

I just wish I could make up my damn mind... my heads are gonna be trash so if I have to have heads built I might as well do a full long block...

Glad you like it. Good luck with the tune. It'll make a big big difference.

Most the compression difference between the 257 and the 255 due to volume differences in the heads.

And speaking of the heads, you're gonna want to have them machined out. Hybrids are very knock prone unless you have the heads matched due to hot spots.
