Don't take it to the shop FXT brah works at and they probably won't notice. I've had my car smogged twice with grimm up and tech didn't notice or care. He did ask for CARB EO for intake, and I got it for him. He also noticed my VIN was one digit wrong in the DMV system and I had to fix that with the DMV prior to being able to get my stickers, so he was looking for stuff and still didn't notice the uppipe.
Anyway I think this is way off topic from what this thread was intended for so we can discuss this in a separate thread if you want.

I know you mentioned you dont want to swap the DP every two years, but sometimes there are necceities that need to be done.
My experience with high flows are pretty bad. I had a newer helix high flow and it failed. I run catless, but put an oem DP on every other year and my car passes. This is on a hybrid with cosworth 272 cams.
the turbo selection should not have much of an impact on SMOG. I am running a dom3xtr 1000cc injectors, and a front mount. again you will not be making boost during your smog session.
As long as your 02 sensors are good and all codes come up thats all that really matters. I know its a pain in the butt to swap out the DP but for me it is well worth the money. The risk you run with the high flow or single cat is buying it installing it and having it not work as they are not guarenteed, then you will be back at square one.

Good info. Thanks.
I think I'll probably do a cat anyways. My car is freakin loud enough already.
I think the cat location might have something to do with it as well. Some are there just to say they're catted but are so far away they don't do much. And the quality of the cat probably has a ton to do with it.

Yes, the FXT has catted up pipe until 2006. WRX it also changed in 2006 with the introduction of the 2.5 I thought (or maybe STI only?), so I was leaning more toward the WRX side of it, but FXT used the same up as the WRX until 2006. FXT uses the same cattless up as the STI 06-08, not sure about after that.
