I'd have to look it up, but I think it made around 205whp (up from 165whp stock).

I'm going to be doing a motor swap in the next year and I've been leaning toward doing a mad dad catted DP.

If you cover the top of it you can see it's got 2 cats on it from under the car.

They're both hi-flow but I figured most places will just buy this one...

Dude... my car has 230,000 miles on it... the cats were smoked. I needed new ones.
I have smogged with my Perrin Divorced Dual Cat DP and stage 2 OTS cobb map. WE just made sure the cats were nice and WARM/Hot.

Single cat?

Perrin and Mad Dad are both Dual hi-flow cats. That might be part of it.

I'll probably do the mad dad. I'm not in to swapping crap back and forth. I'll put the motor in stock. Get it through BAR or whatever the hell I have to do when I put a new motor in my car. (going ej255 on my stock ecu).

Once it goes through that I'll put a few minor mods on the car. 18g, injectors, TMIC. Once that's done I'll see if I can't talk Mike out of 3 tunes. 1 valet tune, 1 regular tune and 1 smog tune.

I've already got the 18g so I need to track down some 850s and a JDM tmic. Clutch and flywheel are ready to go.

Either that or I'll puss out and just run a VF39 or something similar on a USDM STI TMIC and STI injectors and sell the 18g like a giant sissy because I want to be able to just drive my car and smog it every two years until I sell it. LOL!

Gut the high flow and put shields for cops imo. I checked a Porsche recently for another shop that ate through the high flow cats in less than 2 years. Also a Gallardo last year that did the same.

Obviously its going to depend on your tune but imo anything greater than a stage2 and you're wasting money on high flow cats. In my experience they get eaten up quick from the lean mixture.

I really like the EQtuning gutted uppipe with the heat shields btw. Thinking about getting one because as you know smogs gotten pretty strict now.

I know you mentioned you dont want to swap the DP every two years, but sometimes there are necceities that need to be done.

My experience with high flows are pretty bad. I had a newer helix high flow and it failed. I run catless, but put an oem DP on every other year and my car passes. This is on a hybrid with cosworth 272 cams.

the turbo selection should not have much of an impact on SMOG. I am running a dom3xtr 1000cc injectors, and a front mount. again you will not be making boost during your smog session.

As long as your 02 sensors are good and all codes come up thats all that really matters. I know its a pain in the butt to swap out the DP but for me it is well worth the money. The risk you run with the high flow or single cat is buying it installing it and having it not work as they are not guarenteed, then you will be back at square one.

on a 2.0L, an sti uppipe is illegal. You can get failed for modified cats. If you are doing the sti swap and get it reffed, then there is no issue.

Yes it is, but most shops won't even notice it.

I have gotten pretty lucky as I have the flex joint up pipe and have never had it noticed, but I dont think my 05 WRX came with a catted up pipe.

Don't take it to the shop FXT brah works at and they probably won't notice. I've had my car smogged three times with an aftermarket uppipe, never had an issue. The two times I had an intake, they asked for the CARB EO for it, and I provided that. One guy also noticed my VIN was one digit wrong in the DMV system compared to my VIN plates and I had to fix that with the DMV prior to being able to get my stickers, so he was looking for stuff and still didn't notice the uppipe.

There are 3 cats on the 05 wrx. I double checked with my smog manual. 2 in the downpipe and 1 in the up pipe. My old wrx had an up pipe cat that I swapped with a GS one.

Look where the COBB cat is. Cats need heat. if it's not in the throat of the DP it's kinda just a visual thing. Even in the throat, high flows will eventually wear out.
