Another question.. Sorry
But how much psi could the engine bug out?
What I mean do I have to get a fcd or something?
The reason why I ask...
Last cmi I seen a Subie 06 sti and I ask the owner a question
And basically make the story short
He was boosting 32psi with fmic and that's it and run 12 in a 1/4 mile
And he told me that he wanna blow the engine!
Can our engine could really handle that much psi?

I gotta ask: Why 400? It's kind of a arbitrary number.
Not trying to be a dick... but this is a common rookie mistake for car guys.

Really what you should be asking yourself is: What are my goals with this car?
Do you just want to be able to say you have 400HP? I know a few places that will sell you end emblem for less than $10.

Think about what you want to do with the car, and what you want it to do "more" of.

Personally, most of my Subie gripes come from poor turn-in... likewise I've spent my money on suspension to specifically fix that. Once that was done, I noticed that the brakes were kinda soft, so a master cylinder brace went in.
In general you are going to find that STi's transmission gears are so closely spaced, that making massive power just doesn't buy you that much.

...see where I'm going with this?

You've got a lot of reading to do..specifically about how turbos work.
Start here to understand how the turbo size and psi are related

Why is a big turbo so different from a small turbo at the same PSI? - Yahoo! Answers

Easiest way to get 400hp is to sell the sti and get a used corvette or a current gen mustang gt.

Well the key really is quantitative staging to power tuning capabilities.
Bugeye engines handle psi. FMIC.
If you spool at 12mph too early you need to handle suspension woes.
32psi. Blow engines, not trannies.

To gain an additional 100HP can be done without putting some much of a dent in your wallet (depending on how deep they are of course). I would probably get a catless turboback exhaust, 800cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump, intake, EL headers, MBC, and a good tune one E85. Won't be practical if you daily your car, but should get you to your goals.

PS. If you're looking to get 400HP you won't need to worry about too much boost as long as your engine is healthy.

Well, I DD my car with E85, catted DP, intake , 850cc inj and 340lph pump. It's still practical as hell, and gets 335whp/395wtq.
Think that's what the OP needs (I guess it's over 400hp at crank), but needs do a lot of reading first. Took me ~6 months to fix my plans & do things right

Sorry guys don't get offended but why u guys so **** about #?
you guys can't really figure or have an estimate # for the psi?
For example for 3sgte for mr2 2gen they could easily go for 17psi and the engine bug! And I think u could push like 250rwhp! On a stock engine! Lol I'm just saying..

First off, we're **** because you asked a bunch of questions that you can search for. Second, we're trying to head you in the right direction.

Go up to any decent pro tune shop and ask for 400whp without burning a hole in your pocket book and you'll get laughed at. Ask any guy these typical questions and you'll be flamed a bunch more.

This isn't a v8, just throw a big supercharger and step your foot on the ground kind of questions. I'm sure if we HAD answers that you think we should have, we wouldn't bother with the opinions and tested ideas from other people who've actually done modifications to their car.

As the previous people stated. You want 2.5L to hit more HP, you'll:

#1 need to spend cash, unless you're some how a pro nascar dude and in that case you dont even need the forum.
#2 Read up on builds people have done and their success.
#3 Talk to a real tuner who isn't here to try and rip you off. I'm sure there are a laundry list of things that are commonly done, like bigger turbos, injectors, stronger pistons, inter-coolers, etc.

Search, and search well my friend. What do you want to do what your car, and how will you achieve it.

There is no such thing as 400hp and little dent in your pocket, well there is but no reliability.. And like someone said up towards the top I think you mean at the wheels. So 500hp at the crank. I suppose a little dent in your pocket could be about $10 to 15k if you do it right with a tune.. Or sell your Suby and go buy a Shelby GT500 at $60k with 580 hp out of the box or a Datsun 510 with a SR20Det for about $8k

to OP; why are subie guys so **** about horse power... because we are enthusiasts about the entire car not just putting on intake and exhaust and some stuff from kragen and thinking we are the ish. another thing i have learned about subies vs other cars, crank horsepower/torque means nothing, with subies its all about what power you are able to actually lay down. this is also because almost every single subie with mods requires tuning. tuning requires a dyno. a dyno gives hp/tq put down not, to the crank. hence why subie guys deal with power to the ground over crank. this here is a very good description of pretty much every basic thing you need to learn about subies as well as one extra read for people thinking of going 400hp. these are both stickies from NASIOC in the newbies section if you would like to look for more info.there is literally no question about your car that hasnt been answered somewhere in great detail on the net. it usually requires a lot of reading, but reading is your best friend. usually while looking for the answer to one problem you are able to locate answers to other questions you may have. knowledge is power... gi joe
Unabomber's Manifesto - NASIOC
Public Service Announcement. "I want 400whp!" Are you sure? - NASIOC

to others; i dont think the OP quite understands the complexities yet of modding a subie. hell i barely understand the internal working of the engine in a subie, but i sure am trying. me coming from being a chevy truck guy and a honda, the mods required to gain hp is completely different. there you can throw on some parts and a chip and gain hp. we all know its not exactly like that with subies with the constant tuning requirements.
