For 400whp you are looking at

Intercooler (spearco or Perrin if staying top mount)
Turbo (something like an ATP 3076 w/ ext wastegate)
Fuel (e85)
Fuel pump
Injectors (1300's if going E85)
Turbo Inlet
Intake(@400+)
full 3" turbo back exhaust
Custom pro tune.
You may need to build your block a bit depending on it's condition. I'd recommend at least forged pistons.

Impossible.... Unless doing all the work yourself and have enough time/patience to locate the parts used.
Tuning that setup is gonna be extensive regardless of open tune or accessport tune.

We tend to focus on AWHP because we get a higher ratio of loss to the wheels. This is due to the AWD setup and driveline friction etc. Let's say with the loss calculated, you may be able to reach that goal At the crank on your stock sti turbo plus "stage 2" mods, E85 and a good tune. You'll still need injectors, and possibly fuel pump.

That question is heavily debated. Some folks settle on the 400 hp number while others say it's all about the tune and how the car is driven. I know I wouldn't expect the stock pistons/runglands to hold up at 400+ but that's my opinion. I also think that the tune on any car is very important regardless of hp amount. Don't just focus on hp numbers. Do a bit of research and you'll see hp is nothing without torque.

Gotta remind you to search. You're asking questions which have been answered to death over time on this and various other forums.

I'm saying that the answer changes based on many variables, such as usage/application, supporting mods, fuel used, mileage on block, the turbo used @ amount of boost and how it is tuned. It's not a static answer.

lol very nice of you John.

I'll chime in and say Subarus are 2.5 liters 4 cylinder putting down 300 HP to the crank stock.... that's pretty wound up to begin with. When you start building them for high power you start having to strengthen stuff. Remember Subarus have something in the ballpark of 25% drivetrain loss. That means that your stock 300 hp is really somewhere ~225. Shooting for 400 AWHP means you're shooting for ~500.

Horse power numbers are baselines to see how you're doing. Every dyno is different, every tuner's style is different, some pieces may work better than others and you can't count on throwing a bunch of products together and going by their claimed HP gain and expect it to be true. "This intake gives you +20 hp, these injectors give you +30 hp, etc. etc."

I'd recommend looking at build threads on the proven power section of Nasioc, if you like a build and the numbers they get, find a tuner and work toward something similar. It also has to do with how reliable you want it.

this.

Read the stickys in that forum. They will prepare you as far as expectations and also equip you to ask the right questions.
