Arrow So, what do you guys know about head swaps?

Aparently all the people who know anything have disapeared... I figured some migrated here.

Anyway, WRX heads + EJ18 block w/ jurry riged turbo kit. Thoughts? Yes/No? Compatibilitly issues, etc.?

Ive been trying to beat this out of the nasuck technical persons, but they arent helping...

(and I know the I-speed Gods are around here somewhere too, the kings of head swaps and ej-franken-motors )

In order to do the heads, you're gonna have to yank the motor out, why not just put in a EJ25 motor? It'll adapt the turbo better as the intake on it is bigger.

Just a thought..

$EJ25>$EJ18+$WRXheads

Simple math.

It's great that you are considering cheaper alternatives to getting more power. But just remember when you cut cornes to try and get power...it ends up costing you more money in the long run.

What is your budget for your turbo project?

My initial budget was $700. That wasnt including the heads and such. I'm already past that now Trying to shoot for $1000, but I pretty much need these donor exhaust parts for it to stay around that much... Let it be noted that I cant afford more than that, and not because I choose not to but because I dont have that much money (So dont say "get expensive engine management" cause I cant!)

Anyway, I have an S-AFC on the way to use with the MAP mod that others have discussed on the EJ18 turbo topics over on nasioc. Ill probably also throw in an MBC. But I dont know if ill need anything else, other than some wiring skills.

And yes, im doing this all myself. Ill have plenty of time after I graduate next month and look for a real job... (Ill keep working at target, but ill need SOMETHING to do!) And yes, I have knowledgeable and skilled friends too

As far as what I have pretty much as of now (actually what I have scheduled to get, I dont have anything physically myself yet) I have:

Legacy Air/Water intercooler + pump
WRX turbo
S-AFC
WRX heads
Some donner uppipes and maybe a boost guage...

So really, im open to whatever right now, as long as its cheap and I need it for this to work. But I figure I have to work on what to do for:

Header/uppipe/downpipe/etc (maybe a crossmember swap, but that will be even more expensive and require all new exhaust parts... Unless I can get this all innexpensively)
Fuel rails (stock WRX I presume) + injectors
Intake manifold (if I need it or not)
Timing belt and timing belt covers for the WRX heads
Fuel pump
Boost guage
Turbo oil piping n' stuff
EJ20 gaskets for the WRX heads
