How do you not know you have a nail in your head?

LITTLETON, Colorado (AP) -- A dentist found the source of the toothache Patrick Lawler was complaining about on the roof of his mouth -- a four-inch (10-centimeter) nail the construction worker had unknowingly embedded in his skull six days earlier.

$100000! I think I'd take the chances of removing it myself for that price.

Strangely, I can sort of see how he can not know about the nail.
I stepped on a nail when I was a kid and it didn't hurt at all even though I was bleeding all over the place. I thought it was just a pebble I stepped on.

There was a guy that shot a finishing nail right inbetween his eye and his eye-socket and into his brain. He remembered the gun going off, but didn't feel any pain, so he though he was just uber lucky and that it had missed him.

15 years later, he got x-rays after complaining about headaches, and that's when they found the nail in his head. Since he's actually not that bad off, they decided just to leave it there, as surgery to remove it would probably kill him.
