If we want to donate money, they will accept it at the Burlingame Red Cross office at:
1710 Trousdale Drive
Burlingame, CA 94010-4557
(650) 259-1750
*we just have to specify that it will be for the San Bruno Relief Efforts

This office also can accept blood donations. If you want to call and donate money via credit card, they can take it over the phone too.

Edit: You can donate online: http://www.redcrossbayarea.org/index...ulo=va24t92924
They are also accepting direct donations at the San Bruno Rec Center.

Wow, I just caught the news and saw the footage of the leveled homes from the newscopter... WOW, whoever said it looked like WWII earlier is 100% right! First thing it reminded me of was Blitzkrieg and Dresden after the bombing campaigns during WWII. Unbelievable how crazy that scene is!

To those that suggested that we donate money to the red cross to help families out in the disaster, if BAM wasn't 2 days away and I had more notice of this, I'd be all for it... But we've already been in touch with our current charity and they are counting on us... Everything is already planned and set in concrete.. However, we could TOTALLY have a separate donation box for people to donate money...

This hits me sort of close to home because my parents were supposed to move to San Bruno about 7 years ago, but instead they found their dream home in Niles... I wonder if they would have been affected if they would have gone to San Bruno? I can't imagine losing my loved ones/house/belongings/life to something like this.

Jeff (ipozestu) is 100% right... Having an emergency "bug out bag" (basically a bag/box of emergency items, valuables, etc that you can grab really quickly if you're forced to evacuate). Stuff happens, and wouldn't you rather be prepared than not? Some might call you paranoid, but when faced with the fate of these people, you wont be looked at as paranoid, you'll be looked at as being smart/realistic/brilliant for doing what you did to prep for the disaster. It doesn't have to be an explosion, it could be as simple as a cooking fire that spreads and engulfs your home... There are many things that can happen where you need to get out of your house, and possibly leave it behind, and by having an emergency bug out bag, you'll be a step ahead of everyone else.

Lets not forget that the bay area is anticipating a 7.1+ earthquake in the next 30 years (yes, we're actually bracing for a 7+ earthquake in the near future, it could happen before, or it could not happen at all, but history dictates that it will happen sooner), and when that big quake hits, don't you want to have batteries/water/etc so you can have the basic essentials? Or would you rather just say "ah, f' it, it wont happen" and go forward with nothing? It's not like it's expensive or hard to gather emergency goods, it doesnt even take much time... Just get a good size backpack and stuff it with the things you'll need (batteries, valuables, CASH, food), and also have some emergency food stored in a couple areas that are easy to access in case of an emergency where you can grab them and run.

PS: The thing that sucks about the red cross is that the money you donate doesn't always go to the best areas... I guess that's expected with an organization as large as the red cross, but the best thing would be to donate to the families directly, does anyone know if there's a way to do that? I try to avoid the red cross after I learned that there is a % taken out of your donation to fund their organization (which is understandable, because they need cars, trucks, storage, etc), but in small localized disasters like this, there are sometimes donation centers that will work directly with the families and give your money to them without taking out a %...

If anyone knows of a donation center (sometimes the news station sets up a donation fund and splits the money evenly amongst the survivors without compromise) that interacts directly with the families that lost everything, can you please post about it here?

One of my coworkers is missing along with her youngest daughter. Not good news. Her husband said that the explosion started close to their backyard and is working with the coroner on getting them dental records. I did not know this coworker, but still sad nonetheless.

On top of that, our company will be conducting an investigation on the incident.

Dan,
I work for AT&T in san bruno and we have a huge communiation tent with cell phones charging stations and laptops for all the people that are with out phone and internet service to contact family members, we have also been giving free cell phones people that lost phones and need to talk to friends and family. My boss is in direct contact with sbpd and the red cross so if people want to donate at BAM it could really help out the people that have lost everything is san bruno!

^ Somethings you'll also want in your BOB if you have pets: are pet food, a leash, a spare collar with an ID tag (consider one with space for an address in case phone lines are down), vet records (showing vaccinations, if you need to stay in a shelter), and a toy that will help comfort your buddy.

I third this. Won't be going to BAM but will donate for this cause. I hate thinking about what happened but definitely want to help in any way.

The news is reporting that 44 Jackie Greig and daughter Janessa?? (8th grader) are 2 of the 4 victims. Looks like Jackie worked for the CPUC.

Condolences to all affected by this tragedy.

Good news update: So my friend thought for sure that his house was gone being the number of houses being reported and his house being on the same street so close to the explosion. I believe his neighbor's house is gone, but miraculously his didn't burn down. Not sure if part of the house is fire damaged or not. Here's a clip from earlier.
