I could see the smoke and a little of the fires from my balcony in Burlingame. This is very sad since I used to live in San Bruno and parents and friends are still there. I don't think anyone was affected, or at least I hope not.
But as 04Cali suggested, we should really do something....either as a club or individually.
I heard last night they need O-negative blood to the area. And as others mentioned, 50+ homes are destroyed and 120+ damaged.
What can we do to help? If there is someone close to the situation as a part of the relief efforts or with emergency crews, please chime in and let us know what our community needs.

This is crazy!!! It looks like hell. So terrible. I've been busy putting together our BOB. I need to complete it. All these families evacuated with nothing. Looting was found as well. Get your ish together guys. An emergency can happen at any time.

looting!? F**K Humanity disappoints again....
6 looters were arrested last night. Anytime emergency resourses are consumed some will see it as a chance to capitalize. My heart goes out to the families who have been affected. I can't help to see this as an example of what happens when ish goes down. Everyone should put together an Emergency Bug out Bag. It's only paranoid silliness until you need it.
One of the residents say they smelled nat gas for about 3 weeks straight prior to this explosion. Told PG&E about it but they didn't do anything about it. I can already see the big lawsuit forming against PG&E

Perhaps we should take some of the funds raised at BAM X and donate it to the cause in San Bruno. Heard on the radio that they need food, blankets and money.

Being in the midst of this last night really opened my eyes. This wasn't an all-encompassing outage that affected all services and everyone - this was contained to an area yet the surrounding area was completely locked down with chaos and randomness. I saw people fighting, folks out of their houses with furniture trying to direct traffic and such. I found it very hard to get out of the area and then had to respond to a work emergency which put me right back in the middle of it. It would be nice if people could be helpful and work together but once you see even the outskirts of "fight or flight" kick in - weird **** happens.
true, scary to see that much chaos with something that only affected one part of San Bruno. When "The Big One" finally hits us the damage, fires, casualties, and displaced people from that quake will be this times X1000

Spoke with someone from San Bruno PD and with the Red Cross office in Burlingame that is in charge of relief efforts for San Bruno -
They prefer not to take in supplies because they have no place to put it.
If we want to donate money, they will accept it at the Burlingame Red Cross office at:
1710 Trousdale Drive
Burlingame, CA 94010-4557
(650) 259-1750
*we just have to specify that it will be for the San Bruno Relief Efforts
This office also can accept blood donations. If you want to call and donate money via credit card, they can take it over the phone too.
Edit: You can donate online: http://www.redcrossbayarea.org/index...ulo=va24t92924
