just came back from N* the conditions are getting bad. There are a lot of patches of dirt and brush showing up. I went last week and it was awesome. I also forgot to tell you all that my suby got stuck in the snow for 2 hours on the last trip. I got pulled out with my buds CRV with chains. it was a sad day for wrx's. This time went down without a hitch, but the crowds are getting pretty bad (about 20+ mins. to get to the summit)
just came back from a week in tahoe. went to heavenly 2x and sierra once, both were decent. my buddy works at heavenly, so he got us in for free.
the snow was crap, the terrain parks were filled with kids, and it was generally just way too crowded with families.
i had more fun setting up a 10 foot canoe and jibbing it off the dock in the back yard of our cabin.

Please Be Careful Driving to Tahoe This Wknd... Esp. Fri Nite !
Yeah... ya know I've been keeping my eyes & ears on this, too. The other day ya beat me to the punch on posting the projections of FIVE to TEN FEET of snow when this series of systems rolls thru.
Ya still trying to make it out to the Wood on Sun the 6th? I'm calling for the 88 to be closed by 9pm on Fri nite. Hopefully they'll have the section fr: South Lake to Kirkwood open by noon on Sat. The pass could remained closed til really late on Sat or even Sun morning. Let's hope for the best for the day-trippers!
I'm sure you've seen this already, too.
I was planning to head up to South Lake on Fri. My buddy's got a 2-bd penthouse hooked up for 2 nites at the Marriott by Heavenly's gondola. Damn... ya gotta love the perks of working for the M. I dunno if this trip is still on since we're supposed to ride the Wood on Sat & Sun.
Too much of a "good" thing, eh?
Please use extreme caution when heading up there this weekend, y'all.

strait up dude...you know I'm a powder FREEK... The wood is gonna be sketchy this weekend. Sunday coming back should be good but if you plan on driving through the storms at any point on Thursday or Friday I GUARANTEE the pass gets closed. Talkin 8-10 FEET....FEET of snow up there at levels of 5000 feet.
That's why we're avoiding N* and Kirkwood this weekend. Should be able to sneak up to bear valley on the late night.
It's gonna be rediculous. We might even skip taking the suby and load up the truck and weight down the back with some bags.
I haven't seen a series of storms like this in a long time. Funny thing is that a couple days ago I was outside working on some stuff and it was WINDY as all hell at my place and I told my brother we better watch the weather cause all this wind was gonna bring on a big big storm. I was DEAD on and I haven't watched the weather once. Just read about these storms this morning in the paper.

I'm going up Friday, this should be sweet!
also, i went up last week with some friends in my buddy's XT. The snow was no problem, didnt need chains or anything, we were passing people all the way up there (safely).
and then of course when we got there we found an empty parking lot and ripped it up at about 11:30 pm

With the expected whiteout conditions (due to high winds & DUMPING snow), driving conditions are gonna be pretty gnarly fr: Fri evening to Sat nite. Since you're getting there on Thurs, you should be good. Leaving on Sun... hmmmm. The third storm should be wrapping up by Sun afternoon. However, the roads will still be slow-going with all the folks that got snowed-in Fri nite & Sat. Plus the snow levels will be down to about 2000 ft as the last storm will be bringing in colder air w/ it.
As far as riding/skiing, SUNDAY will be EPIC! Thursday: no snowfall til the evening, but the winds will be pretty "healthy." Friday: maybe half a foot by first chair... probably a foot & a half of fresh by last chair; the gusts will pick up even more, too.
Saturday: We may NOT be able to play til noon since SERIOUS accumulations & winds are expected overnite Fri & continuing into Sat.
Sunday: EPIC! Still gusty, but w/ low snow levels fr: overnite Sat... think light & dry pow!So put your rock boards/skis away til April! And don't forget to pack your snorkel!

If I was heading up this weekend, I'd definitely leave the bay area in the wee hours of the morning. Driving a blizzard on Friday night in the Tahoe area is not my idea of fun. It's a mad house!
I'd also probably bring the avalanche beacon...
