For tickets... if you see us grab one of us and we'll hook you up.

My brother rides a black Burton Fish with mexican blanket print on the tail when there's powder. A skunk ape with a big *** Coors sticker on it when there isn't. Blue helmet. Usually brown goggles. Big *** beard. He's about 6'1. 200 pounds. Brown hair. Probably smells like bud. LOL!

Me. I ride a Sierra Reverse crew most days for the time being. Black helmet with a BELL sticker on the side of it. Big *** gray beard. 5'11. 235.

We both have passes and will be more than happy to hook you up. Jordan is up there all this week through Sunday.
Definitely let me know if you have ski boots for sale I'll buy them! Anything from 11-12 I can use. And hell ya on the ticket hookup! I'll keep my eyes peeled on here and try to find you guys, or if anyone wants a ride to bear in a wrx, I'd be more than willing to give a ride as I won't take my truck up there unless the roads are clear. AWD over 4wd in this household. My truck just gets horrible traction compared to the subie. Doesn't help the subie has studded snow tires and the truck has all terrains.

And I totally feel ya on being passless, but way tougher for ya being so much closer to the slopes than me. And it is nice to get a buddy hookup on day tickets like I did on Sat. But I didn't know one could get half off cuz mine was $56 or about 29% off. I do know the discount depends on the day of week and time of the season, and a 50% off day would be stellar!
Ya I think 50% is week day only and yes 2 planked here. I actually do both ski and board but as I've gotten older I've notice I can ski all day but if I board my knees quit half day so I've decided to just ski from now on, especially on deep powder days.

My plan for Saturday will probably be nursing a hangover LOL... doing a double bday party Friday night for a buddy and myself. However, crusing up to Kirkwood late Sat afternoon and crashing there Sat night with a coworker in employee housing (score!) then riding Sunday with 2 buddies.

Jeff: how was the hangover shred sesh?

My legs are toast right now. I just got back from a 1 mile jog. Shorter & slower than my usual distance & pace cuz...
  • Fri & Sat: 2 days of powder hunting with Jordan at Bear, and we put in a few runs on Lower Mtn on Sat (Grizzly chair finally opened around noon that day). With lucky dogs like Jordan riding midweek, not surprisingly, there were scant fresh lines so it was a lotta work smashing thru the tracked-out chop. We also put in a village run each day. Those were prolly the best lines I had all wknd!
  • Sun (yesterday): 2 hours at Jump Highway (trampoline/foam pit place) for my lil cousin's bday; I finally figured out the timing & footing to let out my inner Spud Webb... (or if you're not old school like me... Nate Robinson) on their dunk court
I plan to ride Diamond Peak w/ some peeps on Super Bowl Sunday. Catching the game & staying overnight in North Tahoe.

And I've got other friends that are considering a day trip on Wed to Sierra before the storm rolls in that night. But I'm thinking of riding there on Fri during the tail end of the system when the snow level is down to 6000'. Open Snow is calling for the leading edge of moisture on Wed night to have the snow level around 7000', which is right at Sierra's main lodge. Since the bottom of West Bowl is at 6600', I'd rather go when it's more likely to be snow only rather than a wintry mix. And though the forecasts winds for this system are a bit gusty, I'm hoping they aren't too bad.

Haha, was more of a hungover drive up to kwood Sat afternoon lol! Rode there yesterday & all was good other than only getting 5hrs of sleep.

Temps were high and wind was minimal so it was more or less like a spring day up there this past Sunday. Got to ride all day with just a tshirt and hoodie.

Schedule is shaping up pretty good for this coming wknd, so I should be able to get up to Bear w/ Jordan... I just gotta drop him a line and see what his plans are.

Yep. 'Tis looking like another week of regular snowfall. Snowforecast.com calls for Bear to get 7-10" Thur, 8-11" Fri, a dusting Sat, 5-8" Sun, and 15-18" Mon. It will be VERY gusty tmrw & Fri, and the winds will diminish but still remain fairly strong thru Mon.

That's right. Partied hard on Fri, recovery on Sat w/ the drive up to shred on Sun. Reading comprehension has never been my thing.

Speaking of spring-like conds... that's what the lower village run groomer felt like. It had that grabby & sticky feel on that short groomed section just before you get into the neighborhood. Everything above that was sweet!

You should mos def link up w/ Jordan. Sat is looking like a bluebird day other than the wind.

My plans are still in flux. But seeing how the forecast is shaping up, I'll likely scrap my possible day trip on Fri. I'll keep Sun and add Mon. Just hope the winds aren't too gusty. For Sun, I have a comp I can use at Diamond Peak. For Mon, I'm hoping I can redeem my "Friday the 13th" ticket at Sierra. Otherwise, I'd look into Homewood since, like Sierra, it offers good wind protection. Plus, it's another sleeper mtn like Bear is. And it'll be much easier to get to from the north shore.

Let me know if you decide to go to Sierra. I'd be down to tag along. Definitely would appreciate some pointers from a black diamond pro!!!

Did my first groomed black diamond on Sunday. It was not that bad, tiring but fun. I'll need help on the moguls though.

I'm guessing you did Clipper in the West Bowl. While the following vid starts off with some cheese (but "queso" is kind of a SnowProfessor dealio), you may wanna check it out for some helpful tips on moguls, which I avoid at all costs:

The instructionals by SnowboardProCamp are pretty solid too. There are a buncha decent ones on YouTube. Just gotta browse to see what makes the most sense to you with your current levels of skill & experience.

And it looks like Mon is now off the table for me. My friend's daughter who is tagging along has class on Mon. This ain't such a bad thing cuz the winds are a HUGE concern with this system.

That said, I may even scrap Sun as well. But we'll see. I'm just gonna keep a close eye on the resorts' lift reports & social media updates to see how gnarly today & tmrw actually are.

Speaking of wind, Mt. Blows will be living up to its name with this system. SnowForecast.com has gusts today at 96 mph! Sustained winds from the SW at 39 to 63 mph. For your Sat pow sesh, the winds come down a bit... from the WSW at 25 to 39 mph, with gusts up to 59 mph.

Yeah this system is gonna have some serious winds at time for pretty much the entire thing. Sat from like 11-3 should be pretty damned great though.

Problem I'm seeing is temperatures. There's a chance for some rains and I do not approve. It's too early in the year to be getting that. I'm hoping it blows all week so I can play hookie on friday and catch some snow for a change. I'm feeling like ****. Usually by this time I've ridden myself into shape but I'm gonna have to do some home **** to catch up. I'm missing big chunks of time.

Scored a Burton Craig Kelly (CK) NUG from the rep to demo this weekend. Its only 150cm but regardless of that should be fun as hell, so stoked to try this out!

Ray: I'm with ya on the whole not being in shape thing. A unlucky timing with combo of warm & windy storms, being busy, and being sick for the 1st several weeks of the season put me WAY behind on conditioning. And I've been trying to catch up over the past month, but kinda overdid it last wknd with two days plus the trampoline/foam pit sesh. My old *** still had some lingering soreness on Wed. LOL

Feeling good now and have been waiting on the rain to die down a bit to get my run in today.

Re: current windy-and-becoming-warmish storm system... after reading OpenSnowTahoe's reports over the last few days, I'm concerned too about the warmer subtropical moisture that'll be fully (only been partially during these 1st waves of precip) feeding the system and we'll likely have rain up there Tue through Thur.

Jeff: Nice hookup! Since I'm way outta the loop on gear, I also checked out the review from my Go-To source...

Rad. Lucky bastard.

I'm staring at $700 in goggles and wishing I had that board...

150 with that tech... it'll ride better in pow than any board you've got. Trust me. That board I was riding in chin deep pow was a 159.... I ride a 162 on regular days...

So the ridgetop gusts were surprisingly bearable at Diamond Peak yesterday. Once I got past those blustery spots, the wind was damn near non-existent. Compared to my 1st two trip there over the years, I finally got to do some exploring off-piste this time around. Tons of wind lips to pop off and boulder hucks here & there. Their steep glades were about on par with the tree riding all along the Grandview chair at Sierra. And like Homewood, it's a hidden gem with a chill vibe and killer views of the lake!
